A horrified McDonalds customer has filmed a shocking sight inside a Melbourne restaurant.

Jackie Zovas posted a clip to TikTok after visiting the Cheltenham store last Saturday, describing it to be in a “putrid” state.

“I’ve never seen anything like this,” she wrote alongside the footage.

The place was overrun with rubbish, from the tables to the floors and even the kitchen benches. There was also food including beef patties seen scattered on the floor.

McDonald’s issued a statement saying they are working with the restaurant involved.

“We follow strict cleaning, sanitisation and hygiene procedures in all restaurants, including routine dining room cleaning,” the spokesperson told Yahoo.

Ms Zovas noted the restaurant was “super busy” when she walked in with only three staff working, but was still left stunned.

“I genuinely felt sick to my stomach to the point I actually asked for my order to be cancelled as I felt as though eating this food would make me sick, that’s how much of a health hazard I believe it was,” she told Yahoo.

She also claimed that some items being served to customers “were sitting there for quite some time”.

“I genuinely felt sick to my stomach to the point I actually asked for my order to be cancelled as I felt as though eating this food would make me sick, that’s how much of a health hazard I believe it was,” she said.

Social media users were appalled by the video, with many saying other locations looked similar and saying it’s time for standards to rise.

“Seen this appearing at many locations,” one wrote. “Standards dropping and prices rising.”

While another was more worried about the cleanliness of certain areas: “I get the restaurant might be dirty after the Saturday night rush …. But behind the counter?!” they said.

A third simply wrote: “Disgusting”

“It shows none of you have worked a busy service in a kitchen. You think food doesn't fall on the floor?” a fourth person chimed in.

‘Working with the restaurant’

The McDonald’s spokesperson said they “are committed to giving our customers a great experience every time they visit one of our restaurants”.

“We are working with the restaurant to ensure we continue to provide a safe and clean restaurant, with a great customer experience.”
