‘Missing’ Cadbury block sparks frenzy after it finally lands on shelves
Aussies are rushing to buy a highly-anticipated choc block after it landed on shelves – weeks after supermarkets cleared way for it.
A highly-anticipated new Cadbury block has sparked a frenzy after it landed on shelves – weeks after supermarkets cleared way for it.
The Dairy Milk Mudcake bar was confirmed by the confectionary giant last month, leaving eager shoppers searching for it on shelves.
When Woolworths cleared a space for it in the lolly aisle, even advertising it with a yellow price-tag, many foodies were over the moon.
But their joy was short-lived when the new chocolate block failed to appear, leaving some to share their disappointment on social media.
Images of empty shelves soon began circulating online, with Melbourne foodie @AngeEats telling news.com.au he was “confused” to see the product advertised on shelves, yet find stock was “completely missing”.
He elaborated on the bizarre situation further on his podcast The Food Guys, stating he’d visited every Woolies he could looking for the Cadbury Mudcake chocolate block, with no success.
“We’ve just gone every single hour of the day trying to find this new stuff and we’re always so disappointed,” he said.
“Where is it?”
But, alas, it seems like the hustle has “finally” paid off after one of Ange’s co-hosts spotted the chocolate block in Woolworths.
A Woolworths spokesperson told news.com.au the new bar officially launched on June 5 and will be rolled out across 1000 stores by the end of the week.
Meanwhile Cadbury didn’t elaborate on the confusion surrounding the bar’s release, but said it was excited for Aussies to try the new sweet treat.
“The Cadbury Dairy Milk Mudcake block is available now for purchase in selected Woolworths supermarkets,” the spokesperson told news.com.au.
“This special edition block is inspired by the timeless household favourite chocolate mudcake, often shared between family and friends at special occasions.
“Our unique take on this classic Aussie treat combines Cadbury’s smooth and creamy Cadbury Dairy Milk milk chocolate and Dream white chocolate blend with rich choc flavoured creme and biscuit pieces. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to try the Cadbury Dairy Milk Mudcake block, available now for your enjoyment.”
Early reviews on the bar however have been mixed, with Ange Eats revealing that while it doesn’t have the flavour he expected, “it does taste nice”.
“The biscuits add a nice little crunch to it. It taste like Marble on the outside and the filling tastes like the milk chocolate from the Cadbury but in more of a filling form,” he said.
Overall, he decided it didn’t taste like mudcake but said it was still a nice chocolate block.
Fellow food blogger @dub.eats.everything said the chocolate bar “smells so good”.
“It’s pretty fire. That chocolate cream is like fudge almost, which gives it the mudcake, and the biscuit pieces give it that cake sort of vibe,” he said.
“But the marble makes it with the little stripes on top of the mudcake. Overall, good bar. It’s not exactly mudcake but it’s still fire.”
