Forget roses, Aldi offering boozy Valentine’s Day ‘hampers’ for $23
You either love it or hate it – but whatever your views on this upcoming celebration, the budget supermarket has a suitable offering.
Whether or not you’re a Valentine’s Day fan is often dependent on your relationship status.
But no matter your view on the annual “day of love” – we can all agree the gifts shops roll out at this time of year are pretty naff.
Fluffy teddy bears are only cute if you’re under 13, while dinner at a nice restaurant is usually twice the price as any other given day.
No one objects to a classic bouquet of red roses, but they don’t last forever and your other half’s bank balance takes a hefty hit.
The only real way to celebrate (or commiserate) true love is with some good food and a generous splash of wine – but the cost of a pulling together a hamper can add up.
That’s why budget supermarket Aldi has created a selection of hamper ideas using everyday core products and are available year-round to create a variety of treats suitable for chocolate lovers, cheese enthusiasts and wine aficionados.

The cheapest offering from the German store is the “Organic Valentine’s Day” which retails for $23.85 and consists of rich dark chocolates, award-winning red wine and Australian made velvety smooth brie.
Sweet-toothed fans can enjoy a smorgasbord of ten different Aldi chocolates and a bottle of Australian muscato for $36.88 with the “Sweet Like You” hamper suggestion.
Or you could go all out with the “Champagne Breakfast” selection and spoil your love with French inspired pastries and champagne for $51.21.
If you’re hoping to walk into a store and find these Valentine’s treats ready for you in a basket with a bow, you’ll be disappointed – in true “no frills” Aldi fashion, you’ll have to collate the items around the store yourself and BYO hamper.
Nicole Higgins, ALDI Australia shopping expert, says: “Roses are red, violets are blue, the perfect Valentine’s Day gift is Monsigny Champagne Brut!
“Mix in some quality, authentic Belgian waffles with cream and you have the perfect breakfast for two. With five first-class hampers to choose from, we’re helping shoppers save on quality products from chocolate and wine to brie and ice cream.”
