‘Crime against tastebuds’: Canadian expat reveals most hated Aussie snacks

A Canadian expat hasn’t made many friends after sharing her most despised Australian snacks, describing one as a “crime against tastebuds”.

A Canadian expat has caused widespread offence after listing all the Australian snacks she will never eat again.

Ioana, known on social media as @ioanaonthecoast, has lived in Australia for the last seven years.

But many weren’t too happy when she created a list of “snacks she wouldn’t touch with a 10-foot pole”.

And party staple Burger Rings were top of the Canadian’s hit list, as she called them “a crime against tastebuds”.

“They don’t even taste like burgers; they taste like sadness,” she said.

Next to feel her wrath was TeeVee snacks, which are biscuits coated in chocolate, with Ioana saying she’d “rather go to Bunnings and suck on sandpaper than eat these again”.

The expat then attacked Chicken Crimpy Shapes, saying they were the worst flavour, despite a 2021 survey by customers that revealed close to a fifth of customers preferred them to any other flavour.

She said that she didn’t particularly love any food that was strawberry-flavoured, and Strawberry Freddos were top of the list.

Even Aussie favourite Caramilk didn’t escape unscathed, with the TikToker saying “immediate jail” was called for over the chocolate.

Despite saying that the list was just her personal preferences and it shouldn’t be taken too seriously, many followers were quick to defend their beloved snacks.

“I really tried to be tolerant and accepting, but I punched a hole in my wall when Burger Rings came up, and things only got worse from there,” one said.

“You don’t have Aussie tastebuds. They all rock,” another wrote.

One social media user was very distressed by the inclusion of Chicken Crimpy Shapes on the list.

Another added: “This is satire right? You literally listed some of the best snacks.”

“The only thing you got correct is the Strawberry Freddos … also the orange TeeVee snacks are the best. Everyone knows that,” someone else said.

However, one person who was raised in Australia, said they agreed and that they were “all junk”.
