From next month customers at Coles will be able to get their hands on a set of knives just by doing their shopping at the supermarket.

Doing your groceries at Coles could also earn you a Christmas present – with free MasterChef-approved knives up for grabs.

Beginning on November 4, Coles shoppers can score a MasterChef knife credit by scanning their Fly-bys card for every $20 or more spent in one transaction.

There are six different knives available: a utility knife, a small santoku knife, a large santoku knife, a bread knife, a cooks knife and a set of two steak knives.

Knifes can be redeemed for 20, 30 and 35 worth of credits and customers can also purchase a wooden knife block for $25.

To celebrate the silly season this year, Coles is launching over 275 new Christmas-themed products which news.com.au got a sneak peak of ahead of them hitting stores this month.

Traditional fare like turkey and ham have been joined by fancy finger food like chorizo pigs in blankets and Christmas sausage rolls stuffed with beef, ham, cranberries and spices.
Coles also has a fancy pants Tasmanian salmon roast stuffed with feta, spinach, leek and lemon ready to go straight in the oven – making it an “easy and efficient” choice for entertaining, according to Coles Christmas ambassador and chef Luke Mangan.

When it comes to dessert, Coles has two new dishes that will satisfy any sweet cravings out there if you’re not a fan of mince pies or Christmas pudding.

The supermarket will begin stocking a Chocolate and Hazelnut Mousse Dessert later this month, with the dessert a dupe of the giant Ferrero Rocher frozen dessert that hit Aldi in the UK last year.

Featuring a hazelnut mousse centre covered in Belgian chocolate and hazelnuts with a brownie base, the OTT dessert will definitely satisfy any chocolate cravings.

“It’s basically like an enormous Ferrero Rocher in chilled dessert form,” Coles Christmas ambassador Courtney Roulston said.

News.com.au was lucky enough to try the Ferrero Rocher-style dish and we can confirm it’s a dead ringer for the cult chocolate treat – a rich, smooth chocolate filling with a crunchy outer shell and incredibly addictive. It costs $28 and serves 10 people.

For those looking for something a little more tropical, there is also a Passionfruit and White Chocolate Mousse Dessert on offer that would go perfectly with a pavlova.

If parents are looking to keep the kids busy in between courses, Coles is also selling a cute Rudolph Macaron Kit that lets you decorate the chocolate macarons as your favourite reindeer using with pretzel antlers and chocolate buttons.

After a difficult year Coles chief executive officer Steven Cain said the supermarket wanted to make things as “easy and affordable as possible”.

“We’re continuing to lower the cost of entertaining with our new range and providing customers with even more value every time they shop at Coles with our latest campaign to help top up their kitchen with excellent quality knives and make cooking preparation even easier this year,” he said.

Woolworths has also started to unveil its Christmas range this week with the supermarket’s merchandise manager of bakery Donald Keith revealing it will include a special selection of Australian-made products sourced directly from local suppliers.

Standouts include a new flavour of mince pies – blood orange and fig – as well as a traditional Christmas cake that’s matured for nine months before hitting shelves.

“With the festive season getting nearer, this is the time of year we see customers start to think about Christmas and begin stocking up on some of their favourite Christmas treats, particularly from our bakery,” Mr Keith said.
