Fans slam new Caramilk McFlurry after Macca’s special release

After rushing out to buy a highly-teased new McDonald’s item, fans have claimed the dessert was “flavourless” and a “big let down”.

How to make Caramilk snowballs

It was the most highly-anticipated Caramilk news since Cadbury confirmed the white chocolate-caramel hybrid block would be a permanent fixture.

But despite Caramilk addicts waiting with bated breath to get their hands on McDonald’s limited edition Caramilk McFlurry, many have now taken to Facebook to give the fast food giant a (soft) serve.

Complaints of a lacklustre amount of toppings or – as one Caramilk fan so eloquently put it – tasting like “crap in a cup” have flooded social media.

“If you like the taste of plain ice cream from McDonald’s then the Caramilk McFlurry is for you … so disappointed,” one person wrote in the Caramilk Addicts Facebook group.

“Was so excited for this but was left so disappointed, it’s basically soft serve, couldn’t find the sauce, the chocolate on top was OK but needed so much more of it,” another lamented.

Others said they had gotten “just under a spoonful” of Caramilk flakes topping the soft serve, claiming it was “flavourless” and a “big let down”.

“Plain ice cream with a bit of Caramilk grated over the top. So bloody disappointing. I’ll buy the ice creams from Woolworths or Coles in future,” another said.

“Can barely taste the Caramilk on these. As an addict, the ice cream to Caramilk ratio is all wrong. They should fill the cup with Caramilk flakes and then put a dollop of ice cream on top!” one Caramilk fan recommended.

But not everyone was a hater, with some saying it was delicious, especially if you requested extra topping or added caramel sauce.

“I had one and it tasted brilliant! Mine did have a bit of Caramilk sauce and Caramilk flakes on it though,” one person said.

“Ask for extra toppings. 10/10 would recommend!” another commented.

“At first I was a bit disappointed, but after a good smushing it‘s not too bad. Not the life-changer I hoped for but passable,” one said.

“Nice but will stick to my trusty Oreo and hot fudge McFlurry in future,” another commented.

In response a McDonald’s spokesperson told news.com.au they were “delighted with the overly positive and enthusiastic response we have received from the majority of our customers”.

“We are committed to listening to our customer’s feedback and are constantly adapting our menu to give customers more of what they want and better Macca’s moments,” they said.

The spokesperson added that customers could “absolutely” order extra toppings if they wanted to.

“McDonald’s menu is designed to be customised to suit taste preferences and dietary requirements,” they said.

After weeks of speculation McDonald’s finally confirmed that Caramilk McFlurries would be hitting restaurants from Wednesday.

The fast-food chain’s senior brand manager in Australia said they were “so excited” to be introducing the Cadbury Caramilk McFlurry given there was such a huge fan base for the chocolate.

“It’s here, it’s Cadbury Caramilk and it’s only available while stocks last,” Liz Whitbread said.

“Cadbury Caramilk is a phenomenon adored by chocolate fans across the country. Its unique, delicious caramelised white chocolate is truly in a league of its own.”
