Brand new twist on the Aussie favourite Golden Gaytime

There have been many incarnations of the iconic Golden Gaytime, but now there’s a delicious new twist on the frozen favourite.

Shoppers horrified as iconic Aussie treat suffers price hike

It’s consistently rated one of the top ice creams in Australia, but now the Golden Gaytime will be available in a new format.

There have been many incarnations of the delicious frozen treat — from a doughnut-flavoured twist to a plant-based version.

Now, Pauls – known for its custard range – has created a Golden Gaytime Inspired Toffee Custard.

The brand calls the creation its “most irresistible, iconically Aussie collaboration ever”. It features thick and creamy custard combined with toffee and vanilla flavours.

Alongside the Golden Gaytime inspired custard, there is also a Violet Crumble inspired Choc-Honeycomb and Pauls Chupa Chups Inspired Strawberry & Cream Custard.

The latter is being touted as a “nostalgic creation guaranteed to revive sweet childhood memories”.

These two have been available for some time in a smaller version, but due to their popularity Pauls and Streets decided to super-size the treats to a 600g tub.

Unlike other new flavour drops, this collection is not one that is around for a limited time only. It is here to stay.

Each of the custard varieties are on sale for $6.50.

The Pauls Golden Gaytime Inspired Toffee Custard is the only special edition custard available at Coles, as well at Woolworths and independent grocery stores.

However, the other two custards are solely available at Woolworths and independent grocery stores.

Pauls has been making dairy products such as milk, cream, custard, yoghurt and flavoured milk for more than 90 years.

In April, it was noticed Golden Gaytime ice cream had suffered a price hike at supermarkets, with a four pack of the cult toffee and vanilla flavoured ice cream sticks retailing for $10 in most stores.

The price is up almost 18 per cent from 2019, when a multipack cost just $8.49.

Interestingly, a single stick cost $3.40 at supermarkets right before the pandemic hit but now costs as much as $5.

News.com.au understands limited-edition varieties have also been affected, with boxes now priced above $12.
