Macca’s recently released a divisive new menu item – and Aussies have already put their own culinary spin on it.

A “never-before-seen” pineapple fritter was added to menus last week, along with the pineapple sundae, sparking a new hack to enhance the eating experience.

Fans of the fast food giant have created an ice cream sandwich, using soft serve from the new sundae flavour, and the crispy pineapple fritter.

While it’s not to everyone’s taste, the move has proved a hit among those on social media, with many jumping on the trend and sharing their thoughts.

TikTok user @foodblogs said they loved the sundae and it was “so refreshing” but the fritters were even better.

Beau Newton, another TikTok creator, combined the two products for “pineapple on pineapple”.

“That is amazing,” he declared.

Social media users were divided by the sandwich, with some labelling it “delicious” as others scoffed at the idea.

“The sundae is awesome! It reminds me of crushed pineapple and jelly through it,” one TikTok user commented

Another said: “Need to try this.”

“I love pineapple,” one simply said, while one added that their order was “pending” to do the exact same thing.

“Imagine cinnamon sugar on the fritter! Would be EVENNNN BETTER,” one said.

But, as usual, you can’t please everyone with one person saying that “the sundae sucks”.

“Fries + Pineapple Sundae goes hard. Fight me,” she captioned her clip.

The fast food chain said it was “inspired” by last year’s special summer menu item, the humble potato scallop, this time deciding to go for pineapple slices covered in a crispy fried coating.

McDonald’s marketing director Samantha McLeod described the new pineapple-themed menu items as “the ultimate snack item this year”.

“Whether you prefer your pineapple served warm or cold, we’re giving our Macca’s fans both this summer to put them to the taste test – we can’t wait to hear what our customers think,” she said.
