Aussies furious as ‘super popular’ Macca’s menu item no longer available
The fast-food outlet recently added a “super popular” new item to menus that many are reporting is “sold out” almost everywhere.
McDonald’s customers are “livid” after being unable to get their hands on a limited-edition menu item.
The fast-food chain recently launched potato scallops with chicken salt at restaurants from January 11, one of several items released as part of its summer menu.
Despite being incredibly controversial, with Australians unable to agree on whether it should be called a potato scallop, potato cake or potato fritter, many are now complaining for an entirely different reason.
Social media is awash with diners claiming they’d tried unsuccessfully to buy the fried snack, slamming Macca’s for the item being “always unavailable”.
“I’ve tried multiple times to get a scallop, but they never have any,” one wrote on Facebook.
“I’m livid, that was literally two weeks,” another ranted.
Twitter users were equally unimpressed, stating the fried potato slice was “incredible” and deserved to be available for longer.

McDonald’s responded to one complaint publicly on Twitter, explaining the potato scallops had been “super popular”.
As a result it was “tricky” for some customers to get their “hands on them”.
Australia is also in the midst of a potato shortage, though it’s not known if this is affecting the restaurant chain.
Despite the fact many are disappointed they appear to have missed out on the potato scallops, the item had reignited a fierce debate among Aussies when it was first announced over its name.
A photo of a makeshift sign at a Macca’s drive-through shared to Reddit proved just how contentious the issue was.
It read: “We have sold out of the Potato Scallops. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
The snap amassed thousands of comments as Aussies fought it out over the “correct” word for the food item, traditionally sold at fish and chip shops.
