Arnott’s and Peter’s ice cream join forces with old school frozen treats
FIRST they meddled with Pizza Shapes. Then, they did a mashup with Tim Tam’s and Messina Gelato. But could this new Arnott’s experiment actually work?
FIRST, they meddled with the taste of Shapes.
Then, Arnott’s decided to do a Tim Tam’s collaboration with gelato powerhouse, Messina.
But could their latest experiment be their best mashup yet?
Peter’s Ice Cream has teamed up with Arnott’s to roll out a range of frozen desserts that taste like some of our favourite old school biscuits.
Ice Vovo in a tub anyone? Or maybe you’re partial to a Wagon Wheel frozen sandwich?
The range of ice-creams also include Caramel Crowns in a tub, and individual Mint Slice frozen treats.
From today, consumers can indulge in the frozen treats — with the tubs retailing for $6.99, and the frozen sandwiches at $7.99 for a pack of four in major supermarket retailers.
Posting the launch on Facebook, which has received more than 1k likes, social media users were quick to praise the innovation.
“Put the diet on hold! Wagon Wheel Ice Creams!” one person wrote.
“So excited about the caramel crown ... I’m going to cry!,” another added.
The Iced Vovo tub contains a mix of “marshmallow, coconut, raspberry jam and vanilla biscuits” — while the Mint Slice sandwich is a “cool mint and chocolate biscuit smothered in premium dark chocolate”.
In a statement, Peter’s Head of Marketing Alicia Munday said the new range will be a taste of nostalgia for consumers.
“We know food evokes a strong sense of memory, and most of us grew up with our favourites in the Arnott’s biscuits range,” she said.
“We hope these four flavours bring back some classic moments as well as spark some friendly competition between the flavours.’’
In February, Arnott’s joined forces with Messina Gelato to create four Tim Tam flavours that tasted like Messina Gelato.
Black Forest, Coconut and Lychee, Salted Caramel & Vanilla, and Choc Mint variations.
Sydney-based food writer and photographer Tristan Lutze said despite the range of flavours, he would be sticking to the original.
“Ultimately, these new gelato-inspired Tim Tam flavours are intriguing curiosities that, while occasionally enjoyable, will mostly serve to remind you of just how much you love the original Tim Tams,” he wrote.
In April, Arnott’s angered customers when it overhauled its Shapes recipes to improve the lunch box snack’s health star rating. Many described the new flavours as “disgusting”.
Following customer backlash, Arnott’s told news.com.au that they were forced to resurrect the original recipe because of “popular demand”.
