Apparently Donald Trump has never set foot in a grocery store
HAS Donald Trump ever set foot inside a supermarket? The world was left to wonder just how out of touch the US president is after this weird comment.
RICH people lead very different lives.
Oprah Winfrey has a bathtub hand-carved into the shape of her body. Kris Jenner once said she needs an assistant who’s on-call 24/7 to make her a cocktail.
And Donald Trump has apparently never set foot inside a supermarket.
Speaking at a rally in Tampa, Florida on Tuesday night, the US President was making a case for stronger voter ID laws.
“We believe that only American citizens should vote in American elections, which is why the time has come for voter ID, like everything else. Voter ID,” he told the crowd.
“You know, if you go out and you want to buy groceries, you need a picture on a card, you need ID. You go out and you want to buy anything, you need ID and you need your picture.”
Wait, what? ID cards for buying groceries? You’re standing at the register and the cashier is like, “Gotta run a background check before you buy yourself that miserable microwave meal for one. Sorry Karen, this is AMERICA!”
Yeah, that’s … not how it works.

Photo ID is required for proof of age when purchasing alcohol and cigarettes, of course. But in his speech, Mr Trump specifically said “groceries”.
It left a lot of people wondering whether the president has ever actually bought his own goods in his life:

This man has never bought a carton of milk in his life, has he?
Trump says you need an ID to buy groceries... Honest question: What's the last time he's bought groceries?

"The time has come for voter ID... if you go out and want to buy groceries, you need ID."
This is why billionaire idiots shouldn't be President. We need someone to represent us who has at least has bought their own groceries in the last 3 decades.
Still confused? Fear not! White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is here to save the day.
When asked about the remark at a media conference yesterday, she claimed he was referring to liquor purchases.
“If you go to a grocery store and you buy beer or wine, you’re certainly going to show your ID,” Ms Sanders said. “He’s not saying every time he went in. He said, ‘When you go to the grocery store.’ I’m pretty sure that everybody in here who’s been to a grocery store that’s purchased beer or wine has probably had to show their ID. If they didn’t, then that’s probably a problem with the grocery store.”
That’s all very well and good, except again, he specifically said groceries. And the President famously doesn’t drink or smoke (in a speech last year he said this was because he had a brother who struggled with alcoholism, which was enough for him to abstain) so it wouldn’t really be a natural connection to make.
That said, I spend half my life trawling the shelves for half-price mac ’n’ cheese, so who the hell am I to judge?
