Aldi rolls out huge change to the way you shop

The last piece of Aldi's delivery puzzle falls into place as NSW becomes the final state to access this feature from the German supermarket chain.

One Australian state will finally be able to access one supermarket chain’s feature, which kicked off in July.

New South Wales residents can now have their Aldi groceries delivered straight to their doors from September 16.

The service is already available in most Aldi stores in Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland, and Victoria.

Following a successful trial in Canberra back in July, the German-owned supermarket has announced that customers in New South Wales can now order groceries through the DoorDash delivery app.

It means New South Wales shoppers can now pick from over 1800 products — including fruit, vegetables, meat, seafood, dairy, bread, and household essentials — from the comfort of their home and have it delivered directly to them.

The only catch is that the famous Special Buys will not be on offer, and will instead only be available to purchase in-store.

“Our partnership with DoorDash is a game-changer, truly transforming the different ways people can shop with us. Through DoorDash, shoppers can access Aldi’s exclusive range of top-quality products at everyday low prices with just a click,” said Simon Padovani-Ginies, group director at Aldi Australia.

“We’ve responded to what our customers have been asking for. Whether it’s midweek essentials, forgotten ingredients, weekend top-ups, or their full shop, most customers across the country can now order their favourite Aldi items online and have them delivered straight to their doors.”

Canberrans got a first look at the service earlier in the year, with thousands of orders delivered in the first week alone.

Early Aldi orders via DoorDash have shown that shoppers are using the on-demand delivery service to tackle common daily needs – with one order of nappies and wipes, and another with two bags of cat food and a pack of toilet paper, delivered within hours of the trial’s launch.

Interestingly, a third of Aldi’s DoorDash orders are placed on weekends, suggesting people prefer convenience on those days, or are maybe doing their weekly shop on a Sunday.

Simon Rossi, vice president of DoorDash APAC, said: “Our partnership with Aldi is all about delivering our customers greater convenience, choice, and value.

“Aldi’s much-loved exclusive and value-driven range combined with DoorDash’s reliable, on-demand delivery means shoppers around the country don’t have to wait long between Aldi visits. We’re proud to facilitate this new level of accessibility for Australians.”

Customers are already raving about the new service and making the most of it.

On TikTok, one fan said they’d been waiting for this for a while, saying it was “about time”.

“Finally!” said another, while a third mentioned they “can’t wait” to try it.

One mum described it as “an absolute gamechanger for parents out there who are nap trapped or find it hard to pile the kids in the car when you just need a few essentials”.
