Aldi named best supermarket meat in Canstar Blue awards

Australia’s major retailers have gone head-to-head in a popular category, with one chain taking out the winning title for the fourth year in a row.

Aldi: The best special buys of all time

Aldi has done it again, proving it’s the toughest to beat when it comes to its range of meats.

The German chain took out the top prize in Canstar Blue’s Supermarket Meat Awards for the fourth year in a row after it scored a perfect five-star rating across all six meat categories for 2021 — including its popular beef burgers.

It was also named the best catch for fish and seafood for the second year running.

The retailer was up against Woolworths, Coles, IGA and Costco, with all five supermarkets competing fiercely over the past year to offer the best quality products at the most competitive prices.

Canstar surveyed 6010 Aussies to find out which supermarket label meat products they had purchased and eaten in the past four weeks.

Survey respondents were then invited to identify and score their purchased product(s) on a scale of 0 to 10 for overall satisfaction, and feedback was also recorded on freshness, taste and value for money.

Aldi took out the top gong in the “meat wars” after it was rated the undisputed champion of supermarket beef, pork and lamb, while Coles was also rated as having the best lamb and seafood, alongside Aldi.

It was rated five stars across a range of meat products including its popular beef burgers, roast chicken and lamb.

“We understand our shoppers are motivated by quality and value, and we are very proud that this award recognises Aldi’s continued efforts to ensure all fresh meat products are delicious and at the lowest possible prices,” Adrian Nel, Aldi Australia group buying director, meat and seafood, told news.com.au.

“Thanks to our Aussie-first supplier policy, 100 per cent of Aldi’s fresh meat is proudly Australian grown, which makes shopping for quality and affordable local meat easier than ever for our customers.”

Canstar Blue’s home and lifestyle editor Megan Birot said the retailer was rated five stars across a wide range of specific meat products, including favourites such as beef burgers, roast chicken and lamb, pork and lamb chops, beef and pork sausages and fish.

“It wasn’t just value for money that Aldi performed well in, but freshness too,” she said.

“It’s a real testament to the quality of meat products that Aldi brings to consumers, and to the difference that a good bang for buck makes on customers’ overall satisfaction with their supermarket meat purchases.”
