Aldi shoppers have uncovered a “dupe” of a popular chocolate bar that’s a dollar cheaper and is meant to taste “just as good”.

The German supermarket has launched a “limited” edition caramel chocolate by its “luxury” confection brand Dairy Fine.

And according to those who have already purchased the $1.99 180g block, it “tastes just as good” as Cadbury Caramilk which retails for $3.

“Public Service Announcement! Aldi ‘Caramilk’,” an excited shopper wrote in an Aldi Facebook group.

The post sparked a flurry of comments, many asking how it compares with the cult Cadbury product.

“I think it’s better! It’s really good,” one replied.

“OMG I bought this today! It’s tastes AMAZING! I’m very impressed,” another said.

“It’s so good,” one man commented.

Another said: “I bought some yesterday to try. It’s bloody beautiful.”

Others however, said it wasn’t quite as good as “the real thing” – but worth trying.

“Very close in taste. Slightly different texture (didn’t dissolve in the roof of my mouth as creamy), but pretty damn close for $1.99,” one woman wrote.

“I would prefer one block of real Caramilk to any dupe, no matter the price,” another said.

However, the new addition to the budget supermarket appears to be very popular already, with some claiming they’d been in store and it was already “all sold out”.

“So bummed, none at my local Aldi so I checked the one near my partner’s house but none there either,” one person said.

“Aldi is always out of everything – you have to be in store the second it hits the shelf if it is any good,” another wrote.

Aussies officially went gaga in 2018 when Cadbury’s hybrid white chocolate and caramel bar arrived back on shelves after being discontinued in New Zealand and Australia in 1994.

Since then, it has been reimagined in an array of different ways, most recently being made into a “Breakaway” bar, a chocolate mousse cake as well as the popular Top Deck and Twirl varieties.
