Meet the Pieburger or Burger Pie, whatever you want to call it. It’s a pie and a hamburger in one!
“I love a good burger, and when I was brainstorming pies, I thought, hey — burgers and pies are both perfect for eating out of your hands,” says Zumbo.
“The burger bun top popped into my head, then the pie underneath appeared … we gave it a crack, threw in all those delicious burger components and cooked it up, and it’s a winner! It’s the best bits of a pie and a burger, with all the finger-licking messy eating you get with both.”
The Aussie genius graces the cover of this month’s Taste.com.au magazine, on sale tomorrow, and editor Brodee Myers-Cooke says it’s one of the most amazing food experiences she’s ever encountered.
“He’s managed to get all the flavours of the traditional Aussie burger actually INSIDE the pie: from the beef, to the tomato, cheddar and caramelised onion, and even fried egg and beetroot — they’re all there, in every bite.”
Sounds delicious!
The 10-step preparation process might not be for the faint-hearted but with winter on the way and a lot of rainy days forecast, it can’t hurt to give it a go, right?
