$3 ‘lifesaver’ Coles and Woolies hack with two ingredients

A mother-of-three has taken to TikTok to share her $3 snack hack that involves just two ingredients.

One woman has shared a snack hack to a new generation, sharing how just two ingredients purchased from Coles or Woolworths can create a sweet treat.

TikTok user @claudiashops took to the popular video app to share a cake hack that she says people have been using since the 80s but many younger people did not know about.

“So I made one yesterday and everyone loved it. You don’t need eggs, milk, butter or anything like that,” she said.

“All you need is the cake mix and a can of fruit.”

The Woolworths Essentials Vanilla cake mix retails for 90c, as does the Coles version.

Meanwhile tinned fruit typically retails for about $2, dependent on the brand.

She said the cakes should be cooked at 160 degrees in a fan-forced oven for 22 minutes, adding that her children loved them and they were very moist.

“I know this isn’t new – people have been doing this since the 80s, as I have been told five million times,” she said. “But it’s new to me and other people on this app who said they tried it for the first time and loved it.”

She said she saw it on Facebook and was not claiming ownership.

Claudia said she liked to add cinnamon sugar to her cakes, and had seen other people use Coca Cola instead of fruit.

“Looove this idea. Literally just mix and fruit? Lunches made easy. Thank you,” one social media user said.

Another added: “Thanks for posting these! I had all the ingredients in my pantry and made them this morning and were sooo yummy!”

“I did this last week. One with bananas and one with tinned pineapple. The one with bananas I put a little vanilla essence in as well,” one shared.

Another said: “Creaming soda and chocolate chips even throw in a mashed brown banana.”

“Never seen this until today and it’s going to be a lifesaver this week. Thank you,” another said.

One said: “The original has Sour Cream on top with Pie Apples then bake on top of the Vanilla Cake mix. So this is a slight variation of it.”
