Sprite releases two new flavours with a caffeine twist

Two new takes on the classic soft drink have hit shelves in Australia – but they come with a caffeine twist.

A fresh take on iconic soft drink Sprite has just hit shelves for the first time in Australia – and it’s set to help give you some pep.

Sprite Lemon+ and Sprite Lemon+ Zero Sugar feature a stronger lemon taste than the traditional lemon and lime combination of standard Sprite. But the drinks also feature something else never seen before in Sprite – caffeine.

“With the introduction of our latest innovation, Sprite Lemon+, we are taking refreshment to the next level.”

Ms Miller said the new soft drinks help “encourage people to ‘think zesty’ and refresh them mentally”.

The drink is available at all supermarkets, convenience stores and petrol stations.

It comes after an announcement by manufacturer Coca-Cola earlier this year about a major change to the Sprite bottle.

While the drink has had its iconic green packaging for 60 years, the bottles will now be clear.

The current bottles feature green Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is remade into single use items such as clothes. But because of its colour, it can’t be recycled into new bottles.

Currently, PET that is coloured is separated from clear material to avoid discolouring recycled food-grade packaging required to make new PET bottles.

So from August 1, the colour was removed from Sprite bottles in the US.

In Australia currently, only Sprite No Sugar and Lemon Plus feature the clear bottles.
