Melbourne cafe’s new latte raises eyebrows with its unusual look

A MELBOURNE cafe has added a new latte to their menu. It is innovative, healthy and quite unlike anything you have ever seen.

The Melbourne coffee you didn't know existed

IF you are sick of ordering your morning latte and receiving a normal looking cup of coffee, or if you just want something slightly more Instagram worthy, then you might be interested in checking out the new black latte.

White Mojo in Melbourne — the self-described coffee capital of Australia — is responsible for creating this exotic brew.

Owner of White Mojo Ben Luo says the latte caters to customers who might want something healthier and less caffeinated than a regular coffee.

“There is a demographic in Melbourne, and Australia, who are looking for alternative drinking options that steer away from coffee or tea, whether it be for health reasons or just tasting preference,” he told The Weekly Review.

The name might seem pretty self-explanatory but a lot goes into making this charcoal beverage and it is actually quite good for you, too.

It is made from ground peanuts, almonds and black sesame seeds and is blended with steamed soymilk and, while the dark colour might be wonderful to look at but maybe slightly ominous to drink, it actually produces a sweet, creamy taste.

“While the black latte looks great, our point of difference is that it actually tastes delicious and sweet, too,” Ben said.

This isn’t the first oddly coloured coffee that has come out of Melbourne, having seen a run of pink, green, gold and rainbow lattes. It seems that coffee enthusiasts still can’t get enough of these colourful drinks.
