Ice bags recalled over fears of glass and metal contamination

An item found at every BBQ and party during the summer months has been pulled from stores after concerns were raised it may contain a dangerous material.

A summer party staple has been recalled over concerns glass and metal shards are concealed inside the bag.

A five-kilo bag of North Aussie Jumbo Ice has been recalled from petrol stations and independent retailers across multiple northern West Australian towns on Wednesday.

The recall comes after glass and metal pieces were found inside the bags, prompting particular concern due to the transparency of both ice and glass which would make it hard for a consumer to detect.

The product was for sale at locations in South Headland, Port Headland, Wedgefield, Karratha, Nickol, Bulgarra and Broome.

“Food products containing glass and metal may cause illness or injury if consumed,” a statement on the Food Standards website said.

Consumers are warned not to eat the product and are asked to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.
