COKE has launched a limited edition flavour, which is exclusive to Australia — but its ingredients have confused soft drink fans.

CAFFEINE-addicted Aussies have a creative new way to get their fix as Coca-Cola announces the launch of its latest flavour.

The soft drink giant today hopped on the espresso bandwagon with the limited release of Coca-Cola Plus Coffee No Sugar, which combines the traditional taste of Coke with “a dash of real coffee from Brazil” and “subtle caramel undertones”.

“Australians have a love-affair with coffee so we thought why not give them more of what they want,” Coca-Cola Australia spokeswoman Lisa Winn said.

Coke hopes the new line, a limited-edition “world first” exclusive to Australia, will be a popular alternative to a second cup of coffee in the afternoon.

While the unusual flavour concotion is new territory for Coke, the company has never shied away from trying bold new recipes. The launch follows the release of the hugely popular Coca-Cola Ginger.

“Coke Ginger was a huge success in Australia and it was inspired by the simple insight that Australians enjoy the taste of ginger drinks. The launch of the new Coke Plus Coffee follows a similar path to market – we know Australians love their coffee,” Ms Winn said.

Even those watching their waistlines can enjoy the new flavour, which is sugar-free and contains “less caffeine than the same amount of a regular latte or flat white but a little more than classic Coca-Cola”.

“We think it will be a great tasting afternoon pick me up - like a delicious antidote to the 3pm slump,” Ms Winn said.

The flavour fusion with sugar has been trialled around vending machines in Japan, however Australians will be the first to experience the sugar-free version.

Japanese publication Shin-Shouhin reported the soft drink did “not (have) a very delicious aroma” and that the taste was reminiscient of a diet cola with a coffee aftertaste.

“To be honest it is not a fragrance that seems to be very tasty,” a reporter who trialled the sugar drink said.

“I do not think it’s delicious, but it’s not as bad as I thought.”

The interesting flavour combination is already creating a stir on social media. Some are keen to try it, but others are wary of how it will taste.

Coca-Cola Plus Coffee No Sugar will be available nationally as a limited edition product from today.
