‘Bulging’ beer cans with excess alcohol and carbonation recalled
Consumers are being warned not to open or drink the Australian beers, after they underwent secondary fermentation.
Consumers are being warned not to open or drink a recent batch of beers made by a Queensland brewery which contain excess alcohol and carbonation.
White Lies Brewing Company has recalled its 500ml cans of “Hazy Craze Sessions” beers with a best before date of 1 February 2025 which were for sale at First Choice Liquor and Sumner and Seventeen Mile Rocks taprooms in Queensland.
In a post on its Facebook page, White Lies Brewing said its recent batch of Hazy Craze Sessions had “undergone some refermentation in package” and that as a result some “bulging cans” were identified in trade.
“The resultant refermentation also means that the abv [alcohol by volume] is higher than stipulated on the can,” the post read.
“We are lucky that this issue was caught early and less than 20 cartons made it into trade. We have been able to account for and collect/pull from sale around 15 of these cartons meaning less than 5 have made it to end customers.
“As we take quality and safety seriously, we felt it was important to own our mistakes and follow due process when situations like this arise.
“As such, we have instigated formal product recall procedures and any affected customers can return purchased products for a full refund.”
Consumers are advised not to open or drink the beer, and to dispose of it safely, according to the recall notice.
“Please contact White Lies Brewing Company for safe disposal instructions and reimbursement,” it reads.
“Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.”
