Australians triggered by picture of lesser known Milo packaging claim

An innocent photo of Milo packaging has caused upset among cult fans of the chocolate drink, with hundreds rejecting the “bold-faced lie” within it.

Australians have been royally riled up by a questionable detail on the packaging of a cult favourite beverage.

Famous drinking powder, Milo, has long been adored by Aussies, and has earned credit for playing a key role in the formative years of the millennial generation.

Some will remember scooping tablespoons into a glass jar and leaving little room for a splash of cold milk, while others may recall being mildly traumatised by a light sprinkling of it in warm water during school excursions.

When concocting a single serving however, few would agree the recommended three teaspoons was enough to satisfy a chocolate milk craving.

The conservative recommendation forms the basis of an advertising claim that this week triggered hundreds of Australians.

The outside of Milo tins states the tin holds: “50 serves” – something that has been ruthlessly disputed after being drawn to the attention of Reddit users on Wednesday.

It was swiftly described as a “bold-faced lie”, while the recommended serving size was thought to be an appropriate amount for ants.

“OK I’ve never seen that and what a bold-faced lie,” one wrote, joking the tin realistically had no more than five servings at the absolute most.

“Who only puts 20g of Milo in one cup?” another questioned, while someone else wrote: “

What is this, a serve for ants?”

Many purported to be upset at the person behind the post giving people unwanted flashbacks from being served weak glasses of Milo during their school years.

“You’re a bastard. You’ve just given thousands of people bad school camp flashbacks,” one person wrote.

“You just brought up painful memories of school camp where out only drink option was to fill up a glass of water from the hand basin tap in the communal toilet or drink diluted Milo and diluted juice,” another said.

Others agreed it was “un Australian” to adhere to the three teaspoon recommendation.

“Un-Australian to not shovel that malty goodness into your cup until there’s more Milo than milk,” one wrote.

Some joked the only proper way to consume Milo was straight from the tin.

“So you don’t buy a tin, open the lid. Put some milk in. Close the lid. Shake it all about then eat it like pudding?” one said.

“Nobody else just pours the milk into the tin and drinks?” another said.
