Some people just want to watch the world burn – at least that’s been the reaction to this American’s deplorable tea attempt. WARNING: Distressing content.

American’s ‘British tea’ method sparks outrage

WARNING: Distressing to tea lovers.

When it comes to making tea or coffee, it’s fair to say that everyone has their own particular way of brewing their drink of choice.

But a US expat living in the UK has people steaming after their interesting take on making “British tea”. It’s so offensive, that some are convinced it must be a joke.

In a video that’s been viewed more than 1.3 million times, TikTok user and “American living in the UK”, @Swfinds, shared how they brewed their tea.

Fair warning: You might find this method upsetting if you’re a tea lover.

To begin making “British tea”, @Swfinds instructs you should “add milk” – directly to your kettle.

But wait, it’s not just any kettle, it’s your “British electric kettle” (in case you missed it, many Americans don’t have plug-in kettles).

Next @Swfinds adds a generous spoonful of sugar, multiple tea bags and “bottled water”.

@Swfinds then turns on the kettle, and instructs to “boil a lot until creamy”.

After the tea is boiled to their liking (assuming such a travesty against human nature could ever be to anyone’s liking) it is poured into a mug where @Swfinds adds another generous spoonful of sugar.

People watching had a lot to say.

Many commenters said the whole travesty “traumatised” and “offended” them.

“The worst thing I’ve seen in my whole life,” one person said.

“I want to cry,” another said.

Others likened the tea-making method to a “war crime”, with one person saying it was a “declaration of war”.

“Please let this be a joke,” another wrote. “If not, all Americans should be put into a class to be taught how to make tea before being allowed to come into the UK.”

It’s not the first time an American’s tea-making method has sparked outrage.

Back in 2020, TikTok user @jchelle36 left millions of Brits “triggered” after sharing how they made tea – and this time there was no kettles involved at all.

In the footage, @jchelle36, with the help of her daughter, explained the best way to make hot tea was to fill a mug with water, put it in the microwave for one minute, then add in milk (right to the brim).

THEN, drop in a tea bag, add sugar (which her daughter pours with an unguarded hand from a tin) “then give it a little stir”.

One British man said the method made an “absolute mockery of the sacred cup of tea”, while another said it had “angered me on the deepest possible level”.
