Aldi disappoints shoppers with $40 Multi Snack Maker

It was the most sought-after Special Buys deal last week – now Aldi is issuing refunds on a $40 item after shoppers found it “melted” after use.

Aldi- The secrets behind those "Special Buys"

A sought-after kitchen appliance sold in Aldi’s Special Buys last week has been criticised by a stream of “disappointed” shoppers who say they’ve experienced issues with the gadget.

Multiple people have taken to social media to claim that when they used the Multi Snack Maker – an all-in-one sandwich press, waffle, oreshki and doughnut maker – parts broke and even melted off.

An Aldi spokeswoman told news.com.au they are offering refunds on the $40 product and are taking complaints “very seriously”, encouraging customers to report any incidents directly to them.

Posting in the Aldi Mums Facebook group, one woman said she had used it once and “loved it”. But when she went to use it a second time she realised “one of the latches has melted away” and posted a photo of it.

“It’s now not usable,” she wrote.

“Guys I’m so disappointed! I was so excited for this, even made the hubs line up for one,” another person wrote.

“We’ve used it once with no problems and today the plastic tip holding the plate in place actually melted and broke off … you can see it melt and stick to the plate itself.”

She told others to “don’t be upset you didn’t get one” as it was “such bad design”, attaching photos to show where it had melted.

The posts attracted dozens of comments from people saying they too had experienced similar or had heard the same from others.

“Yup same with ours,” one mum wrote. “I returned mine yesterday, got a refund. Few people on here with the same problem.”

“Mine too … clip melted, just returned it yesterday,” another commented.

“It looks like as fast as they went flying off the shelves they will be getting returned even faster!” another person remarked. “I’m so glad I didn’t get one!”

“I went to three stores and they all sold out, thanks for sharing, now I felt much better after reading this,” one person also wrote.

Many said they were disappointed as it was a “good concept” that had worked well until the plastic melted, with one person posting a photo of the waffles they made with it.

An Aldi spokeswoman told news.com.au they were encouraging anyone who had experienced issues with the appliances to contact customer service.

“The safety of our products is our number one priority and we take feedback such as this very

seriously,” they said.

“We encourage customers to report any such incidents to our Customer Service team so we can thoroughly investigate.”
