Candice Warner reveals her secret SAS Australia training regime

As a competitive ironwoman, Candice Warner knows how to train hard and keep fit. And she used that training and mindset to get her ready for her role in tough reality TV show SAS Australia.

If there was a form guide for the new SAS Australia TV show, you’d have to make Candice Warner the odds-on favourite, with even the most gruelling challenges more like a walk in the park for the former ironwoman.

To be fair, that’s because her walks in the park are a little different to yours or mine. Simply strolling with her cricket superstar husband David Warner isn’t challenging enough, so she ups the ante.

“David and I have found a love for walking, but anyone who knows me knows how competitive I am,” she tells Health Hacker.

“So on some of our walks, just to make things a little more challenging, I would wear a pack full of rice. Most days my pack weighed around 25kg. That’s a hell of a lot of rice to carry around.

“It did serve a purpose, though, and it was the perfect training for SAS Australia. We also set up a chin-up bar in the backyard. David and I would often do sessions purely of chin-ups until we failed or couldn’t pull ourselves up any longer.”

Some couples read together, others watch movies. Candice and David haul themselves above a chin-up bar until they physically collapse. See what I mean about being an unbackable favourite?

While that might not sound like your idea of a good time, there’s plenty we can adapt from Candice’s iron will and endless motivation to suit our own lives.

I’ve spoken before about how the very best health and fitness plan is whatever you can confidently stick to. There’s no point killing yourself with 100 push-ups one day if you’re going to be so sore afterwards that you’ll never want to train again.

“For me, getting motivated is as simple as setting a goal and wanting to achieve it,” she says.

“It’s important to set realistic goals that can be achieved but also far enough away that you have to work to get to. Then reward yourself when you hit that goal for six.”

DIET

“I truly believe that everything is okay in moderation,” she says.

“I eat as healthy as I can, but I’m also not afraid to have some chocolate if I feel like it, or a glass of wine at the end of the day. Balance is super important.”

EXERCISE

“Commit to something you enjoy – you will have much better results if you are doing something that makes you happy,” she says.

“Exercise with a friend if that helps. I enjoy training to music, so a good playlist is also high up on my priorities.”

HAPPINESS

“Happiness isn’t what you see on the outside. To me true happiness comes from within,” she says.

“I love this quote by Ernie Banks ‘You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren’t happy in one place, chances are you won’t be happy any place.’”

SUCCESS

“The secret to success? I’m still trying to figure that out,” she says.

“Consistency and a positive mindset in everything you do definitely helps.”
