White hot Gomes steps out of Kerr's glow at David Jones Spring Summer 2014 launch

WITH no Miranda Kerr all eyes were on new recruit Jessica Gomes at David Jones SS/14 - and she didn't disappoint, opening the show in a blaze of white.

And she didn’t disappoint. 

Opening the show in a blaze of white Gomes wowed over 300 guests in an amazing resort-corset dress by label Willow which set the theme for the night.

Monochrome, nautical and prints were also big and with so many swimsuits on display many guests were left thanking the fashion gods that one-pieces are 'in' again this season.

Guests such as Megan Gale, Gai Waterhouse, Charlotte Dawson, Collette Dinnigan, Sara and Glenn McGrath and Alex Perry got into the night’s Rivera theme walking the white carpet in style. 

Miranda Kerr, who ended her five-year relationship with the department store earlier this year amid rumours that the Victoria Secret model had become “bored” with her contractual obligations, was busy at the launch of her Kora Organics beauty range in the US.

But Gomes was worth every cent of her rumoured $400,000 two-year contract looking amazing in everything she wore from a Camilla kaftan to a Jets swimsuit.

But the night was not without of controversy. Moments before the launch kicked off fashion blog Frockwriter revealed that as many as three of the models scheduled to walk the runway were under the age of 18 despite David Jones’ commitment not to use younger models.

"It's great to see David Jones' ongoing commitment to showcasing some of the brightest talents of the burgeoning antipodian modelling scene but we are still scratching our head over the age issue,” the blog read.

But it didn't affect the fun and frivolous atmosphere of the night with guests experiencing the ultimate pool party complete with summer snacks such as Moreton Bay bugs, chicken fajitas and beef sliders, sorbet from gelato stations and Italian inspired cocktails. 

The retailer described the styling of the night as Cap D’Antibes and the Italian Riviera, "where high fashion meets the clearest of blue skies followed by hot, steamy and decadent summer nights".
