Three Australian mothers have developed a new range of age appropriate bra and knickers sets, called BlossyBloom, for girls and young women
UNSATISFYING lingerie buying experiences led three Australian mothers to develop their own age appropriate bra and knickers range for girls and young women.
BUYING that first bra is a momentous occasion in a girl's life.
And while some might relish the experience, for others it can be unsatisfying and more than a little scary.
The latter was the case for Victorian mum Josie Chapman, who says she felt frustrated at the lack of appropriate choices available when she took her daughter shopping for bras.
This negative experience, however, led Ms Chapman to develop her own bra range BlossyBloom, with two other like-minded mothers, Jo Konstandinou and Rebekah Hancock.
"Basically it all started when my daughter turned 11 and she was wearing crop tops so I decided it was time for her to get into a bra so I took her shopping and there was really nothing that was age appropriate ... everything was padded and pushed and underwired or lacy, or it was really boring," Ms Chapman says.
"We couldn't agree on anything, so we ended up going home with nothing. I decided if I couldn't buy them, I'd have to make them."
BlossyBloom was launched in January this year and currently has two ranges available for purchase online: The Nina Range - a bikini-style seamless bra sold in a variety of block colours - and The Allegria Range - seamed-cup bras that come in designs such as Cherry Blossom, Flower Power and Aqua Bliss, to name a few.
Designed with girls and young women in mind, the collections are colourful, there is no underwire or padding and bras come in sizes from 8A to 14B.
Co-founder Ms Konstandinou says they have enjoyed fantastic feedback from customers across the country.
"We've found something that really resonates with mums all over Australia," she says.
"Most girls in Australia start to develop between 10 and 14 and for some girls it's exciting but for other girls they are absolutely mortified of the changes that are happening to their body and so being able to purchase online with mum (is great) and then what we do is we send a beautiful package to them with a little card attached that has some nice words.
"So what we are trying to do is make the process of moving from a crop top to the first bra as fun and exciting as possible and to make them feel special because it is a difficult time for them."
