Style Snippets: Kim Ellery’s LA story
Renowned Aussie designer Kym Ellery will move to LA this November to take on the US.
DESIGNER Kym Ellery will move to LA this November to take on the US.
“There is a huge market who buy luxury goods and I’m excited about the celebrity aspect too,” Ellery said.
The rising star will open a Californian office and atelier design room, which will allow her to expand retail opportunities and fly between LA and Paris. She also plans to expand into weekend wear.
“My aspiration is to live between the three cities and have a brand that can diversify.
“The casual limb on the Ellery body has the same brand vision and quality which is paramount to everything we do,” she said.
Ellery has also been announced as the 2015 Mercedes-Benz ambassador. The role includes keys to a luxury car and opening Fashion Week this April.
“I am super honoured and excited to open the event for its 20th anniversary,” she said.
“ My family will fly over from Perth and sit front row, which is exciting.”
MCCALL’S A-TEAM
SHE is known for creating larger-than-life fashion parades and this year Alice McCall plans to kick things up a notch.
For her eighth on-schedule show, McCall is planning an event to remember.
“For me the clothes are the hero of the show but I love creating an experience to take it to something fantastical,” she said.
Tomorrow IMG will launch its official MBFWA schedule at a VIP party in Bondi.
KIT STARTS IN PARIS
KIT Willow has unveiled her new collection to global retailers at Paris Fashion Week.
Since announcing her return with KITX, last month, it’s been all systems go.
“There has been very strong and supportive embrace of the brand so it’s very encouraging,” she said.
Back home, the range has been picked up by David Jones.
The focus is on ethically sourced fabrics, including buttons made from vegetable ivory and recycled plastic zippers.
“It’s great design that is easy to care for, and you secretly know you are saving the planet,” she said.
NEW WAVE OF TALENT
UP-AND-COMING designers Emma Mulholland, Pageant and Macgraw have been announced as this year’s BT Emerging Fashion Designer Award finalists.
Macgraw (pictured on model) is also in the running for the Tiffany & Co. National Designer Award.
“We feel honoured to be part of the line-up,” said co-designer Beth Macgraw.
The winner, announced later this month, will win a $10,000 cash grant, flights to LA and mentoring with fashion industry icons provided by the Australian Fashion Chamber.
