LOCAL brand Bec & Bridge will debut its new bikini range at Carriageworks tomorrow.

The 120-piece collection is inspired by the golden age of ’70s glamour and designers Becky Cooper and Bridget Yorston say the bohemian designs fill a gap in the market.

“It’s easy to tack on five pieces to a resort collection but we wanted to create a large range and the focus is on sophisticated pieces with a great fit,” Cooper said.

Ninety per cent of the range is sold as separates so women can mix and match designs to suit their body shape. Prices will range from $150-$220 for a complete set.

“The fit process is critical and you have such a small amount of fabric to get your design point across,” Cooper said. “You are talking about millimetres not centimetres so it’s been a fun challenge for us.”

David Jones has already expressed interest in the new line, so fans of the brand can expect to see the first drop in stores to be later in the year.

BACK STAGE TOP TALENT

WHEN it comes to creating the ultimate fashion experience, Mark Vassallo is the most in-demand man in town.

Both a stylist and creative director, he is currently working on seven shows for MBFWA, including Alice McCall and Romance Was Born.

“You have 15 minutes with media so you need to take their breath away,” Vassallo said.

“ I’m a big fan of off-site shows as I can bring consumers into the designer’s world.”

SHOP THE RUNWAY

A-LISTERS love his architectural designs and this week By Johnny fans can buy his looks straight off the catwalk at MBFWA.

Designer Johnny Schembri has manufactured four looks from his collection that will sell exclusively as a capsule inside a special pop-up in Myer Sydney, as soon as they’re shown.

He will Instagram the looks to his fans. “It’s the peak of our year and not to involve our Instagram followers feels like a waste,” Schembri said.

With only 50 units per item, it is likely to sell out within a week.

SCULPTURAL STYLES

ALICE McCall is staying ahead of the curve by teaming up with celebrity sculptor and musician Daimon Downey.

For her show this week, she has called Downey in to bring the label to life with a
fantasy set.

“It’s amazing working with Alice and it’s my first time working on a parade — and nothing is complete until show time,” he said.

This season we expect to see several brands veering away from traditional runway shows as the industry works harder to engage consumers.
