IF FASHION wasn’t such a serious business, it would be easy to think London’s menswear designers were trying to pull our leg this season.

Koosh balls, Olympic teams and The Little Mermaid were just some of the inspirations behind the quirky creations sent onto the runway at London’s summer menswear collection shows this week.

Sydney men will no doubt be turned off by the oversized plastic hands featured on the Sankuanz runway, which would make it near impossible to clutch a beer, while Kit Neale’s dungarees seemed targeted at Hi 5 cast members and flamboyant gardeners.

Sibling’s tribal collection featured Flintstone’s-style bone necklaces and furry separates, as well as a red flogger-shaped ensemble resembling a giant Koosh ball.

Liam Hodges seemed to have referenced comedy film Zoolander, smearing his models’ arms with dirty-looking paint and “Derelicte” pieces such as hole-strewn knitwear and floor-length ponchos.
