‘The real me’: Why Victoria’s Secret Angel Taylor Hill doesn’t edit her photos
She’s known for being a Victoria’s Secret Angel and now Taylor Hill is spreading her wings with a new clothing collaboration.
She’s a supermodel, Victoria’s Secret Angel, and one of the most recognisable faces in fashion … but most importantly, Taylor Hill is keeping it real.
Backstage at the VS Fashion Show last November, Hill was one of the few models who posed for photos mid Charlotte Tilbury make-up application, wearing a black satin robe, as she prepared to strut the runway at New York’s Pier 94.
Of course, by show time Hill was in full VS Angel mode, with runway waves, a pair of scarlet-coloured wings and a tartan miniskirt.
Hill, who is signed to mega-agency IMG, counts a beauty contract with Lancome and perfume deal with Ralph Lauren among her many roles as she builds a brand for herself outside the catwalk.
Her latest venture is a capsule collection for British-owned online chain boohoo.com, dubbed boohoo x Taylor Hill.
She unveiled the “whimsical”, pastel-toned edit with a VVVIP dinner at The Beverly Hills Hotel last night, attended by fellow Victoria’s Secret models Jasmine Tookes and Stella Maxwell, as well as Californian “it” girl, Sofia Richie.
Even Hill’s choice of outfit for the occasion — a pastel pink blazer ($48), teamed with matching wide-legged trousers ($30) from her self-titled Boohoo line, available now — matched the hotel’s iconic, millennial pink colour palette.
With more than 13 million followers, Hill’s Instagram feed stands out for reasons other than her seriously enviable outfits. She’s not afraid to show the real her.
“Social media is the highlight reel of one’s life — it’s not realistic,” Hill told News Corp Australia in an exclusive interview.
“I like showing the real me in all phases of life. I do not care about backlash or judgments for putting up an unedited makeup free selfie.
“Show me someone who has not had a pimple and I will show you a liar,” Hill added.
“We all have them so why try and act like we don’t? Who cares!”
No wonder Hill takes being a role model — not just a model — seriously.
“I am learning and growing every day to be the best version of me,” she said.
“I try and be my authentic self all the time; the good, the bad and mostly the weird. I hope I can instil this in younger women … be yourself and own it.
“It is OK to be different and quirky but above all be kind and respect everyone, regardless of opinions.”
So what are Hill’s most coveted pieces from her boohoo x Taylor Hill edit?
“I’m obsessed with the oversized suits; the plaid and pink one to be specific,” Hill said. “These suits are versatile; wear (them) to brunch, a business meeting or interview, a night out with the girls, or a date night.”
And she suggests accessorising to add edge to basics.
“My hair is super long and I often wear it up high in a messy bun. Loving the 90s headband comeback to add some hair flair.”
boohoo x Taylor Hill is available now.
