Tammy Hembrow: Instagram queen launches own swimwear line

She’s Australia’s biggest influencer, but if you saw Tammy Hembrow in real-life you might not recognise her – now she’s told us why.

Tammy Hembrow models swimwear collection

With more than 10.2 million followers on Instagram, Tammy Hembrow knows how to take a photograph.

And she’s so good at it, Australia’s biggest influencer understands she looks different in person — and is open about it.

“If you took a photo of me straight on, it wouldn’t look the same as me standing side on where you can see my booty and I’m posing,” she told news.com.au.

After years of mastering the perfect selfie – as well as her famous gym-honed booty – it can be hard to remember that there’s a difference between the Tammy on the street and the 25-year-old on Instagram.

“Sometimes they’re like, ‘Oh she doesn’t look like that in real life’. Occasionally I’ll get that from paparazzi photos,” she said.

“But you know what, it’s all about the angles and I’m not posing for those, so of course I’m going to look a bit different.”

‘I’M NOT GOING TO STOP BEING ME’

The Gold Coast-based influencer spoke to news.com.au less than 24 hours after she launched her label Saski Collection’s first bikini line, Saski Swim.

With skimpy G-string bottoms and tops that showcase plenty of underboob, the collection is signature Tammy.

“Lots of people would always ask me when I was bringing out swim,” she said. “I’m always wearing a lot of swimsuits so I just really wanted to design a collection that I really love.”

The mother-of-two has pioneered the revealing style on Instagram and said having her first swimwear line reflect her personal style was a “no-brainer”.

“To be honest I’ve been really confident in my body the last couple of years particularly because I’ve really worked hard on it,” she said. “For the first one I really wanted to make it very me.”

Judging from the reaction on social media to the new bikini line, people are loving her racy designs. A video of Tammy wearing the $50 “Shiloh” bandeau bikini top that flashes a lot of underboob with a pair of $55 booty-flashing bottoms in an array of neon colours has been viewed almost 2 million times in just days and has received thousands of comments from fans.

“Gosh these look fricken amazing but I could not pull any of them off,” one user wrote.

“Looks unreal,” another said, while others stated they “loved the colours”.

Others suggested the swimwear was actually more like sexy underwear.

“You could hardly call this swimwear.... more like glorified lingerie,” one remarked.

“Can’t anyone make swim wear that’s not a full on thong?” another added.

But wearing the skimpy styles hasn’t been without its critics, with Tammy revealing she often cops hate for her skimpy looks.

“Definitely I think there will always be people that will make comments and say you’re a mum, you shouldn’t be wearing something like that,” she said.

“But everybody is entitled to their opinion. I’m not going to stop being me or catering to my audience of girls because of that divisive opinion.”

Tammy was also happy to answer one of the biggest questions that gets asked about skimpy bikinis – can you actually swim in them?

“You can definitely swim in it, I’ve made sure that it covers the right areas,” she said with a laugh.

“We’re looking at bringing out some more styles in the future as we expand the bikini line, but I love that look personally and they are wearable.”

‘FRUSTRATING’ PHOTOSHOP CLAIMS

As her profile grows, Tammy has also had to face off with claims she photoshops her photos, accusations she admits are annoying.

“It does get a bit frustrating but to be honest I don’t really acknowledge it that much anymore,” she said.

“There’s not much you can do and I’m just focusing on the people who have positive energy and positive feedback. “

But Tammy believes photoshopping pictures is rife among the Instagram influencer scene.

“I know a lot of people do, but no I don’t feel that pressure,” she said. “I think because my account is so large and I do get beamed out a lot. I would feel uncomfortable if I did do that.”

WHO IS TAMMY HEMBROW?

Tammy rose to fame after documenting her post-pregnancy body transformation and sharing her HIIT workouts on Instagram.

The model now has her own exercise app, Tammy Fit, as well as clothing line Saski Collection.

She shares her two children, son Wolf, four, and daughter Saskia, three, with her ex-fiance Reece Hawkins. The pair split in June 2018.
