Liz Hurley recreates her iconic safety pin dress from 1994
It’s the dress that catapulted her to fame, and now 25 years on the British actress has slipped into a new version of that daring dress.
Elizabeth Hurley has recreated her iconic safety-pin gown — 25 years after wearing the original.
The 53-year-old first wore the daring gown to the premiere of Four Weddings and a Funeral back in 1994 when she was dating Hugh Grant.
But in a sizzling new shoot for the April Issue of Harper’s Bazaar, the mum-of-one has rocked the look again — and people are loving it.
“Wow, it was the most iconic red carpet moment then and even better now,” one fan wrote on Instagram.
“Liz looks amazing,” another said.
“Iconic” someone else declared.
In the updated version of the iconic Versace gown, the dress has a different neckline and straps across her left shoulder.
Back in 1994, the gown had a plunging neckline and a revealing slash to the side. Both have got the signature thigh-high split.
Speaking to the magazine, Liz reflected on the night she wore the dress and admitted she was “unprepared” for the reaction.
She said: “I was so unprepared for what happened that night.
“I urgently needed to find a dress to wear for Hugh’s premiere, and in those days I had no idea about fashion.
“I remember going to an office where they literally fished a dress out of a white plastic bag. I took it home and did my own hair and make-up, fighting Hugh for the mirror, which wasn’t even full length, in our tiny one-bedroom flat.”
The rest, as they say, is history, and Liz instantly grabbed the attention of the showbiz world.
Her dazzling dress is widely credited for boosting her career and putting her on the map and was once voted the “greatest red carpet dress of all time”.
Looking incredible in the revamped version of the original dress for the shoot, Liz admitted she still had the original and could still fit into the racy pin ensemble she wore nearly three decades ago.
The Bedazzled star said: “ … Just because it still fits doesn’t mean I would wear it today — it wouldn’t be appropriate!”
These days she’s more into wearing bikinis, regularly flaunting her figure in her own swimwear line.
