Kym Ellery to unveil Spring Summer 2014 collection at Paris Fashion Week
IN A creativity coup, Aussie designer Kym Ellery will show her stunning Ellery label in Paris for the very first time.
IN A creativity coup, Kym Ellery will show her Ellery label in Paris, a first for the Aussie designer who recently fought a mega legal battle between retail giants Myer and David Jones.
With many Australian designers falling like flies, the fashion star has achieved the highly unusual — both cult labels she designs are stocked in the store-sparring shops of DJs and Myer — but it will be the rest of the style world who will see her design expertise in the next few days.
Ellery will unveil her Spring Summer 2014 collection on Sunday as part of Paris Fashion Week in the surrounds of the discreet Hotel D’Evreux at the chic Place Vendome.
Ellery has been invited by the Fédération Français de la Couture du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode (yes, it’s a mouthful) to show as part of the official off-schedule for newcomers in Paris.
Ms Ellery is the third Australian designer to ever be invited to show during Paris Fashion Week; representing a national coup for an Aussie on a global scale. Also showing off-schedule is Jen Hawkins-favoured label and Myer man, Toni Maticevski.
Ellery first met with French frock federation president Didier Grumbach nearly 18 months ago “to say hello and share with him my work” when the 30-year-old began selling from a Paris showroom.
“We’ve been returning each season and maintaining a relationship. I now feel that it is the right time to commence that next journey in a real sense and not just a sales presence, which has been really strong for the last two seasons.
“Paris has always been where I envisaged taking my brand and I am thrilled to debut the collection under the venerable Chambres Syndicale umbrella in Paris.
“I am especially excited about showing ELLERY to a global audience, including the continually supportive Australian media and buyers that I am most appreciative,” she added.
Collette Dinnigan and Paris-based Martin Grant are the only Australians to be invited on to the official schedule over the last twenty years.
“Depending on their success (off calendar), they become part of the official calendar” Didier Grumbach said.
Ellery is one of the fastest growing labels in Australia. The brand has achieved cult local status and international success since its launch in 2007.
Kym studied fashion design and production in Perth before attending the prestigious Central Saint Martin’s College in London, which has also produced such iconic design talents as Stella McCartney, the late Alexander McQueen and Phoebe Philo.
Previously working as part of the fashion team for Russh magazine, Kym’s innate sense of style and fashion forward designs have become a firm favourite for celebrities and the fashion industry worldwide.
Ellery’s celebrity devotees include the likes of Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Eva Mendes, Gisele Bündchen, Mischa Barton, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Bell, Phoebe Tonkin, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Taylor Tomasi Hill, Teresa Palmer, Rita Ora, Hanne Gaby Odiele and Catherine McNeil.
Aussie contemporary fashion designer Akira Isagowa is also showing in Paris to his buyers and international media fans, while THE party many fashion peeps are looking forward to is Jessica Gomes’ birthday soirée (she’s the face of David Jones and a global modelling face). The drinks will be hosted by Russh mag on Friday night.
