NOTHING could possibly sum up Donald Trump’s inauguration as president better than George W. Bush’s existential struggle against a poncho.

As Mr Trump delivered the biggest speech of his life, it started to sprinkle with rain in Washington DC.

George Bush was having none of it. George Bush was freaking president of the United States once, and he wasn’t about to be beaten by a few damn raindrops.

So, George Bush promptly produced a cheap plastic poncho, and proceeded to put it on ... with great, great difficulty.

What a spectacle. It was like watching the opposition to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign play out all over again on Mr Bush’s face — the initial quiet confidence; the realisation that it’s going to be way harder than he thinks; the rising sense of panic as the poncho starts to defeat him; and finally, the sad realisation that he must accept his fate.

Let’s face it, we are all George W. Bush today.
