Women raving about ‘sleep bra’ – leaving hundreds of 5-star reviews

An online retailer has caused a frenzy over a “comfy” bedtime item – with the $36.99 product regularly selling out and receiving rave reviews.

Women have been raving about a “game-changing” sleep bra, prompting others to ask if there are benefits of wearing the undergarment at night.

While bras have been widely worn for over 100 years, most of us only wear them during the day.

But after British retailer Marks & Spencer caused a frenzy with its “Flexifit Non Wired Sleep Bra” – some women have been left questioning if should be wearing a bra at night.

“Since when has sleeping in a bra been a thing,” one woman wrote on the brand’s Instagram page.

“Are there benefits to wearing a sleep bra?” another asked.

Breast Research Australia breast anatomy and biomechanics expert Assistant Professor Deirdre McGhee (PhD) said while bras at night are not a necessity, there are some who find they help them sleep better.

“Because your breasts are not under the same force of gravity when you’re lying down, it’s not biomechanically necessary to have breast support when you sleep,” she told news.com.au.

“Bras are worn during the day because it helps with posture as it supports the mass of the breast under the force of gravity – and it makes it much more comfortable for women to exercise.”

However, she said there are women who find wearing a bra at night more comfortable, including people with breast cancer, women who are breastfeeding and those with large busts.

“If you do want support at night, you need to choose something without underwiring and a fabric that moves with you,” Dr McGhee advises.

It’s those factors that have left shoppers claiming they are “obsessed” with the M&S sleep bra – describing it as “the comfiest thing I’ve ever worn”.

“This is very comfortable indeed. There are no straps or bits that can rub anywhere and is super easy to put on. Love it,” one woman wrote online.

“I can’t believe the support this sleep bra gives – aids a better sleep. I bought it after a biopsy and it is brilliant and oh so comfortable,” another agreed.

While one shopper declared: “Kept seeing reviews for this but it kept selling out so when I saw it in stock I decided to try it and bought two – one in each colour. I only wish I’d bought more! I wear it during the day as well as in bed and they’re so, so comfortable, I sometimes forget I’m wearing it.”

Bigger busted women have also praised the $36.99 item – available to buy online in Australia – stating the bra supported their boobs while remaining cool and comfortable.

“Just what my ladies needed, no more over-heating, no more sore tender under boobies, and no more tender neeps. Just good old-fashioned comfort,” one woman declared.

“The straps support but don’t dig in, neckline not too high and I find the band comfortable – no fastening at the back to irritate,” another said.

Of course, after seeing more than 500 five-star reviews online, news.com.au had to try the M&S Sleep Bra for ourselves.

The first thing we noticed was the fabric – a cotton blend – is super soft to touch. Like, seriously soft. Just as the countless reviews had said, it was also uber comfy and didn’t irritate on the skin.

As someone who loves pyjamas, but hates to wear them in bed, I was worried I might find sleeping in the bra and the matching undies a little annoying – but I honestly didn’t notice them on at all. And best of all, they look super cute on too.

Chuck an oversize white shirt on and you’ve got a chic lounge outfit without even trying.
