TikTok user savages cheap Shein swimwear

A woman has taken to TikTok to tear apart a series of skimpy swimsuits sold on Shein – including one so tiny, she says it should “be a bikini”.

$16 bikini confusing the internet

We know swimwear appears to be getting more minuscule every summer.

But as one woman has pointed out in a viral TikTok video, some of the daring creations worn now aren’t just skimpy, they’re downright confusing.

Kirby, who goes by the username @kirburb on the social media platform, shared a list of swimwear items she’d seen on global budget e-tailer Shein.

“Can you imagine actually going swimming in any of these I feel like they would disintegrate,” the 21-year-old captioned the clip which has been viewed 787,000 times.

The Canadian then featured 10 different swimmers that she – and many others agree – are just downright ridiculous.

Kirby took aim at this year’s cut-out trend that with one particular design, resulted in a piece of string around one side of the waist.

She said the $16.95 pink and blue two piece led her to have questions about “weird tan lines” and honestly we couldn’t agree more.

Another swimsuit was a one piece held together by tiny metal buckles that Kirby says are “hanging on by a thread”.

“I don’t know what you’re supposed to do if they snap,” she adds.

Another swimsuit that Kirby took issue with was a one-sleeved floral one-piece which she states she could “only respect if there were two sleeves”.

Having a single sleeve does seem like an odd decision considering the floral swimmers have a huge cut out on the waist.

In a similar vein, Kirby had a point to make about a khaki green bikini held together by a single strap of fabric and labelled a “one piece”.

“At this point, I don’t know why they didn’t make this a bikini,” she said.

Other problematic swimmers include a stripped two piece with huge cascading straps that Kirby said she thought looked like a “manufacturing problem” and a blue snakeskin effect one-piece that she said “was an invitation for a snake to bite you”.

Understandably, Kirby’s dry and humorous take on this year’s swimwear trends have caused a huge ruckus online with many declaring it them “ridiculous”.

Most were just obsessed with the terrible tan lines you would inevitably gain from wearing them.

“That first one is going to make for some awkward tanning lines,” one user commented.

“I don’t love getting tan lines but if I do I want them to not look weird when I wear other clothes,” another said.

“Those tan lines are the most concerning part,” someone else agreed.

However, others were worried about “how you get into them” while one person said: “They all look like a wedgie waiting to happen. Flossed by a swimsuit, how embarrassing.”

How to pronounce Shein

Others were surprised by the way Kirby pronounced the store Shein’s name, saying it was “she-in”.

“Bro, I thought it was pronounced Sheen, have I been saying it wrong this entire time?” one asked.

“I was pronounced ‘Shein’ as ‘shine’ my entire life,” another said.

The mispronunciation is a common issue the fashion website has that was recently corrected.

“The official pronunciation is SHE IN,” a representative told a customer in a screenshot that went viral on March 19.
