Response to Emily Weir’s ‘revealing’ G-string dress proves big point

The Logies are usually just a reminder to everyone that Sonia Kruger works 37 jobs, and Guy Sebastian will never, under any circumstances, stop wearing little hats, but this year, things got a little more risque.
Before you panic, the Logies was still very much the Logies.
Sebastian did keep wearing his little hats, because a black tie dress code isn’t keeping him away from a fedora.
Kruger, who was nominated for the Gold Logie, again pulled double duty by manning the red carpet as well as being a guest.
Jessica Mauboy was called upon to belt out a banger, someone made a joke about Andy being less famous than Hamish and everyone agreed Tony Armstrong is hot.
But something wild did happen.
Emily Weir from Home And Away hit the red carpet in a light pink dress that was see-through, so see-through that her G-string was a feature, rather than just hidden.
Of course, it caused excitement, outrage and praise.
Someone online suggested she “may as well be wearing a bikini” and another claimed it was a “bit too revealing for the Logies”.
Weir did something very clever, though. Usually, when big assembly casts turn up to the Logies, they all blend and it is hard to know where someone’s fake tan begins and another’s whitened teeth end.
Both Neighbours and Home And Away feature a gaggle of young talent. They are all good-looking and fresh-faced; unfortunately, it can be hard to remember them all.
I hate to say it, but somewhere in the endless stream of young people wandering the red carpet it becomes hard to separate the River Boys from the workers at Harold’s cafe.
Everyone looks like they work part-time at General Pants Co, DJ in the evenings, and are very vigilant about using their teeth-whitening toothpaste.
Look at someone like Weir. She’s been on the show since 2019, starred in over 400 episodes, and has over 100,000 Instagram followers.
She’s a star, but unless you’re a fan of the show, there’s a high chance you’ve never heard of her.
So when she stepped out on the red carpet in a see-through dress, at an occasion where the most exciting thing that usually happens is seeing how many sequins Kruger had managed to fit on her body … well, it was going to get the people talking.
No plunging neckline can compete with a G-string on display.
Of course, this isn’t the first time someone’s rocked a G-string dress on the red carpet.
Hailey Bieber wore a pink G-string dress to the Met Gala in 2019 and Katy Perry wore a red G-string dress at the Billboard Music Awards this year.
Even those big stars got an extra fame boost from showing off so much flesh, and Weir, apart from Larry Emdur, who won the Gold Logie, is the most talked about person today.
It’s fair enough to not be a fan of the G-string dress. It certainly isn’t subtle, but you can’t tell me it isn’t effective.
Emily Weir helped make the Logies exciting again last night, which is all we can ask for. I mean, Sonia Kruger doesn’t need another job.
