Missoni for Target crashes website on launch day
FRUSTRATED customers have not been able to log on to the Target website since early morning to get their hands on the much-hyped Missoni designer range.
SOMETIMES popularity can be a bad thing. Especially when it leaves thousands of customers without the products they have been pedalled for weeks.
Today marks the launch of the much-hyped Missoni range for Target which is the latest designer collaboration for the mass market brand.
Italian house Missoni, known for its zigzag branding and playful colourful prints, has over 200 products priced from $10 to $169 on sale.
Hundreds of eager shoppers stormed the store when it opened this morning rushing to get their hands on everything from bags to dog bowls.
But if you were one of the ones stuck at work today hoping to pick up a bargain online then you would have been sorely disappointed.
The Missoni for Target website has been down all day, citing “unprecedented traffic” for the crash.
“Unfortunately the unprecedented traffic to our website has meant many customers have not been able to get onto the site to place their orders,” the site reads. “We do apologise to those affected customers and want to reassure them that we’re working hard to get the site stabilised.”
Obviously the lure of a designer label is still an aphrodisiac for many consumers and the collaboration of a designer label with a big name local brand is a lucrative business.
Karl Lagerfeld and Alexander Wang have done it for H&M; Pharrell Williams and Rita Ora for Adidas Originals; Kate Moss for TopShop; Zooey Deschanel for Tommy Hilfiger; Roland Mouret for Banana Republic while Dita Von Teese and Roberta Cavalli both hit Target with their mass-market pieces.
It seems Target are onto a winner with this one but just how forgiving customers who have battled with technology all day will be remains to be seen.
