Kmart’s $29 version of expensive ‘Oodie’ hooded blanket

A savvy shopper has found a budget model of a popular snuggly item that can retail for over $100 – before sharing her find on TikTok.

A savvy shopper has found a budget version of a popular “oodie” blanket at Kmart that costs $29 – a huge saving off the expensive winter item that retails for over $100.

In case you’re unacquainted with the trendy item, a hooded blanket (also known as a blanket hoodie or by the brand name Oodie) is essentially an oversized hoodie sweatshirt that’s lined with super-soft fleece and adorned with an equally oversized kangaroo pocket for storing your phone, the TV remote, or several family-sized bags of chips.

While a hooded blanket is far from sexy, it has quickly become an extremely popular item thanks to the countless rave reviews online.

Despite being hailed by many as “the best thing that has ever happened to me”, the price tag has proved enough to put some off.

However Kmart is now offering shoppers a cheaper alternative that costs less than $30 and has TikTok users very excited.

“You’re welcome, save yourself the $$$,” user @yaasssminee captioned a video posted on April 3.

In the clip, the woman can be seen showing off the giant navy blanket that covers her entire body.

“This is your sign to buy a $30 Kmart version of the ‘oodie’,” she wrote over the video.

“So worth it!! Sooo cozy.”

Since it was shared, the video has clocked up over 280,000 views and over 1100 comments, many revealing they had struggled to find the item in stores.

Kmart Australia told news.com.au the pullover gown dropped into stores last week and are “selling incredibly well”.

“Our customers just adore getting nice and cozy in our loungewear so we encourage our community to get in store quick to not miss out,” Janelle Naim, Kmart women’s sleepwear buyer said.

Currently the item is only available in midnight blue but that hasn’t stopped shoppers from expressing interest in the budget find.

“I would never take this off,” one person declared.

“OMG I have to go get one,” another said.

“Wow, right after I bought the real one this comes out,” a disappointed shopper wrote.

One shopper said the Kmart item was great for those who couldn’t stretch to the price of the “oodie” brand.

“The real one is a lot better but if you don’t have the money, that one is almost the same – it’s just thinner,” she said.

In March, Kmart shoppers went wild for a kids version that was selling for $20.

The cosy poncho was available in two styles, a light pink one with deer printed on it and a dark blue with squirrels on it.
