It’s the skin-tight activewear trend that has raised a few eyebrows.

But that isn’t stopping people from snapping up the revealing bike shorts.

Whether you’re a fan or not, clingy shorts are happening – which could be why Kmart has decided to get in on the action.

The budget retailer has recently released a pair for $10 and the fashionable garment is already proving very popular among shoppers.

“They are a hot item for this summer which offer so many outfit opportunities,” a Kmart spokesperson told news.com.au.

They added the trendy shorts could be teemed up with a matching crop top or an oversized tee for coffee or with a blazer for work.

“You can wear them work out back with the matching crop top or outfit them back with an oversized shirt or Tee for coffee or with a blazer for work.”

The Active Women’s Recycled Bike Short have been on sale for six weeks and are now being spotted on Instagram feeds as women sharing photos of themselves sporting the figure-hugging pants.

One woman wrote she “loved” the shorts, adding they were a “firm fit”, while another wrote she was “loving these bike shorts”.

Another fan declared “Kmart have delivered the goods” alongside a photo of her wearing a pair with a matching crop top.

The shorts come in two fun prints, leopard print and tie dye, as well as standard black.

Kmart said the shorts are made from “recycled polyester including recovered manufacturing materials and used garments”.

Design wise, the shorts have a long fit, sitting just above the knee – as well as a high waist band that’s perfect for sucking the tummy in.

The retailer is also selling matching sports bras for $12 which shoppers have described as a “cute matching set”.

Bike shorts have been very popular this year, with activewear brands all releasing versions.

Australian brand STAX made $250,000 in 30 minutes in August with a limited edition range of shorts – and earlier today released its spring collection which features more bike shorts in four pastel shades.

“It’s officially bike short season, which go perfectly with an over-size tee or crop top,” Matilda Murray, who co-owns the label with partner Don Robertson told news.com.au previously.

She said the shorts were “proving to be extremely popular, both inside and outside the gym”.

“We’ve even seen a few boys rocking them so we’re working on making them a mens item too,” Ms Murray said.

Another Australian brand hit the headlines with its “naked” take on the short trend, which made the wearer appear as if they didn’t have any clothes on at all thanks to the nude colour.
