Ema Savahl reveals inspiration behind viral vagina-baring bikini
The designer of the indecent cossie showcased at Miami Swim Week has revealed the unexpected inspiration behind the tiny togs.
The designer behind the vagina-baring bikini that went viral has revealed how she came up with her indecent swimmers.
Ema Savahl, the US-based woman who owns the namesake fashion brand, caused a stir at the opening show from Miami Swim Week 2023 when a model paraded down the runway in one of her ultra tiny togs.
While swimwear has been slowly starting to resemble dental floss for several years, Savahl took the trend to new heights, debuting what can only be described as a “vagina G-string” bikini.
The flesh-baring design was comprised of star-shaped pieces of silver fabric that covered the model’s nether regions and nipples, showing off almost her entire naked body to onlookers.
What made the swimmers so memorable was the fact the front featured a thong that passed through her privates, sparking the birth of the “vagina G-string”.
After the X-rated outfit was modelled on the catwalk, it quickly gathered attention, and now inspiration behind the unforgettable swimmers has been revealed.
It turns out, Savahl collaborated with Kopu Water, a US company famed for a “luxury” drink dubbed the “champagne of water”.
The self-proclaimed sustainable brand, which launched in September 2017, imports water tapped from a dormant volcano in Bay of Plenty, New Zealand. It’s then bottled and sold in a “stylish but lightweight aluminium bottle, which is much better than plastic or glass”.
Founders Justin and Mindy Mahy named the company after the Māori word for “morning star”, kōpū, which is what inspired Savahl’s inspiration for the very racy design.
“Ema created a series of custom pieces that were inspired by the Kopu morning star,” Mindy Mahy told news.com.au.
“Through Ema’s designs the story of American luxury and the power of committing to a better, more sustainable way, came to life on opening night of Miami Swim Week.
“Her vision is unmatched and we knew she was the ideal partner to bring the mission of our brand to beautiful life.”
The wild bikini wasn’t the only outfit inspired by the brand, with the entire Ema Savahl show showcasing designs “which embodied the elegance of Kopu Water’s sleek aluminium bottles”.
This also included a daring blue and silver dress without sides which flaunted the model’s body and an array of itsy bitsy bikinis.
While the Savahl and Kopu described the ensembles as “mesmerising” and “exquisite”, news.com.au readers were not as enthusiastic.
“I won’t be jumping on this bandwagon don’t want anyone to have a stroke,” one reader commented on Facebook.
“So, the beach is about to look like a gentlemen’s club. Got it,” another joked.
As one relented: “Honestly, if your going to wear something that small, just don’t wear anything at all.”
One suggested Savahl drew inspiration from a famous Kath & Kim episode which described a G-string worn backwards as a “T-bar”.
“It’s a personal favourite episode of mine,” the user said.
