Triple J presenter’s Australian Fashion Week rant

Social media feeds have been inundated with Australian Fashion Week content - but for this radio presenter, it’s triggered a particular feeling.

Australian Fashion Week saw thousands of influencers flock to Sydney to watch runways unfold for brands such as Bec and Bridge and P.E. Nation.

However, despite the event wrapping on Friday, many are still sharing their thoughts on the event — including Triple J presenter Abby Butler.

“Australian Fashion Week. I’ve been getting so much content from it on my feed and I’ve been feeling this really weird, vague emotion when I see it,” she told her TikTok following.

“I haven’t been able to pinpoint what that feeling is.”

Upon reflection, Ms Butler worked out what she was feeling was jealously. But it wasn’t attendees who were stirring up the feeling for the presenter.

“I don’t want to speak for anyone else but being a size 16 to 18, it’s f*****g impossible. It is so hard,” Ms Butler said.

“As someone who lives style and cares about fashion and loves talking about it and engaging in it, it is near impossible to walk into a store in Australia and find clothing that fits.”

Ms Butler said there are a lot of retailers who do offer clothing options for her body type and are “doing it well” but so many are offering midlength or tight dresses and, as someone who wants to dress more masculine, that doesn’t appeal to her. She said it took months of research, tears and hundreds of dollars to find a pair of jeans that suited.

“I just watched this Australian Fashion Week content and I’m like ‘I wish’,” Ms Butler said.

Ms Butler wasn’t the only one to feel that way, with one TikTok user claiming the Triple J presenter “hit the nail on the head”.

Others agreed with Ms Butler’s summations of events.

“Preach. It’s do awkward discussing fashion with someone and pointing that brand doesn’t make clothes that fit me and that’s why I haven’t tried them,” one said.

Another said: “I feel you Abby. I’m late 30s and find it so hard to shop for my age/style/size.”
