NRL stars and partners show off on Dally M Awards carpet
A sexy trend swept the red carpet at the Dally M Awards in Sydney, with multiple women rocking the daring style at the sporting event.
NRL’s best and brightest have begun to strut their stuff ahead of this year’s Dally M Awards.
While award favourites Nathan Cleary and Payne Haas have yet to arrive, big hitters like David Fifita, Haumole Olakau'atu and Bradman Best have made their way into the league’s night of nights.
Penrith coach Ivan Cleary has also made his way onto the carpet with wife Rebecca on his arm, showing no sign of nerves ahead of the award announcement for Coach of the Year.
There’s no sign just yet of his son Nathan Cleary, who is a contender for the Dally M Medal this year.
Medal favourite Payne Haas swerved away from a classic tuxedo, instead opting for an all black patterned look.
The biggest stars of the NRLW are also in attendance tonight, with Rooster’s captain Isabelle Kelly rocking a vivid pink dress and matching gloves.
Meanwhile Broncos captain Ali Brigginshaw went for a completely different look, slipping into a tuxedo instead of a dress.
Fans of the stars were quick to comment their “insane” outfits, leaving comments of praise on social media.
“Looking hot,” one wrote, as another stated: “This dress is a vibe.”
The Dally M’s are known as a chance for the wives and girlfriends of sport (otherwise known as WAGS) to get dressed to the nines, one player decided to make the night special by bringing along another guest.
Bradman Best brought along his mother Tobi in a sweet move.
There seems to be a trend occurring in terms of WAG dress options, with black and white dresses favoured heavily over colour.
Chelsea Leary, girlfriend of Panthers second row Liam Martin, showed off a leggy display in a white gown.
In one of the more jaw dropping looks on the carpet, wife of Panther’s captain Isaah Yeo Ashley Camenzuli is sure to turn heads in a red two piece.
Meanwhile Roosters superstar Jessica Sergis shone in a sparkly nude number with a daring neckline.
Known for her strength on the field, Broncos winger Julia Robinson flaunted her intricate tattoo in slinky black dress.
Dally M contender Shaun Johnson was joined by wife and New Zealand netballer Kayla who was yet another figure in black.
She was joined in black by Kotoni Staggs’ girlfriend Brittany Brecht who stunned in a daring ensemble.
Also joining the players and partners on the green carpet are popular presenters such as Lara Pitt and Jess Yates.
This season has seen some major changes to the voting process, with two independent judges each giving three points per game to who they believe is the best on field. A judge will then give two points to the second-best player and one to the third-best.
That means that a player who is five points behind could move ahead of the leader if they are given six points by the two judges.
Scoreboards are made public up until Round 12 before going into voting behind closed doors for Round 13, creating anticipation for the NRL’s night of nights.
Prop Payne Haas was the clear favourite on the Dally M Leaderboard after Round 12, scoring 30 points.
He was followed closely by Nathan Cleary with 27 points, Harry Grant and Nicho Hynes who had 25 points each, and Reece Walsh who had 24 points.
Awards for best player in each position are voted on throughout the season, however if a player ends up in the top three for the main Dally M Award they are automatically selected as best in their position.
Those who are suspended for at least two games become ineligible to earn a Dally M nomination.
The title for most Dally M Medals ever won goes to Johnatha Thurston, who won four during his time with the Cowboys.
