Miami Swim Week 2022: Duct tape bikinis, model’s baby surprise

A swimwear model from the “duct tape bikini” show at Miami Swim Week has made a shocking revelation about the racy swimmers.

The fashion trend we don't need

Miami Swim Week kicked off over the weekend with a string of runway shows modelling an array of different swimwear styles and trends.

One of the most highly anticipated events on the six-day calendar was the Sports Illustrated show at Paraiso Miami Beach on Saturday night which featured well-known models from the brand’s iconic swimsuit edition of the men’s magazine.

Veterans Brooks Nader and Camille Kostek strutted their stuff in skimpy swimmers alongside newly announced rookies for 2023, including Christen Harper, Katie Austin and Olivia Ponton.

Model Nicole Williams, who is married to NFL player Larry English, 36, also made the rookie list – giving fans a second treat when she announced she was pregnant while on the runway.

The 34-year-old made the touching revelation as she walked down the runway in a black two-piece swimsuit.

However her blossoming bump was hidden by a teal robe – which was later removed at the end of the show by her husband whop planted a kiss on her stomach – revealing the news.

“So this happened,” she captioned an Instagram Story, featuring the sweet moment.

“To be able to now be a rookie and to also surprise everybody with my pregnancy, it’s just a double whammy for me,” she told SI Swimsuit.

“It’s the two most unreal things I could have ever dreamed of.”

Earlier in the show, Nicole had walked the runway in a gold semi-sheer one-piece with “Rookie 2023” across her chest, later stating on Instagram she had been trying to “hide the belly”.

The SI show maintained its reputation, earned last year, for featuring women of diverse body types, ages and races.

Miami Swim Week 2022 also saw the return of the duct tape bikinis, with the controversial swimwear trend – created by Black Tape Project – appearing to be skimpier than ever.

A parade of models wearing the sticky tape designs strutted their stuff in front of a packed audience – with one revealing on Instagram it took 12 hours to get into her “bikini”.

“Second time walking for @blacktapeproject. Thank you Joel, and to the outstanding team behind all of this hard work. 12 hours taping and just 30sec walking. It is an honour to be wearing your art,” Chanel Rivera wrote.

Chanel’s swimmers were in an intricate design that just about covered her modesty, but put her entire body on full display.

The black tape snaked up her left leg and around her wrists, covering her bust and crotch areas and little else.

Another model’s “bikini” was equally as jaw-dropping, in a minuscule Borat-style one-piece that left little to the imagination.

Some of the swimsuits had a little more coverage to them, plastered across the model’s bodies in an array of designs and colours.

While one model Stephanie Dana shared a video of her duct tape design on Instagram, a green and gold number that twirled around her limbs like vines.

Understandably, social media users were sent into a spin by the cossies, with some declaring they had been “floored” by the skimpy designs.
