Meghan Markle wears $2300 dress from American designer Jason Wu
MEGHAN Markle is fast becoming a royal style icon. And the outfit for her first joint appearance with Wills and Kate showed why.
SHE’S the woman whose messy bun could launch a thousand ships and now Meghan Markle has made her first official joint engagement with Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge.
During the first annual Royal Foundation Forum, Ms Markle wore a sleeveless navy Jason Wu trench dress — Wu is an American designer also loved by Michelle Obama — which retails for around $2300.
Princes Harry and William, the Duchess and Ms Markle appeared on stage together to discuss why the Royal Foundation was set up, the projects they are currently working on, and their ambitions for the years ahead.
Ms Markle has already made a name for herself as a royal style icon, breaking away from the traditional dresses-hat-and-gloves combo we’ve become so used to.
She frequently rocks wide-leg trousers, man-style coats and cute cross-body bags during her official engagements and most of what she wears sells out in hours.
Her fashion power is so strong that it has a name, dubbed the “Meghan Effect”.
The $880 Strathberry handbag she carried during her first official royal engagement alongside Prince Harry sold out in just minutes.
She has done wonders for the small Scottish label — she’s worn several of their bags and all have sold out.
The outfit Ms Markle wore in January during a visit to youth radio station Reprezent in Brixton sold out instantly.
She wore a coat by Canadian brand Smythe, chic $990 Burberry trousers, a Jigsaw scarf and a jumper from UK department store Marks & Spencer.
During her engagement announcement, Markle wore a belted white coat by Canadian brand Line The Label, which she wore over a $765 dark green dress by Parosh.
Line The Label’s website crashed on that day due to the number of people trying to access it.
Markle and Prince Harry announced their engagement late last year after months of speculation.
The couple will be married in a few months and live together in Kensington Palace.
