Aussie model Robyn Lawley launches petition to boycott upcoming Victoria’s Secret runway show
ROBYN Lawley says the upcoming Victoria’s Secret show should reflect what most women’s bodies actually look like.
THE Victoria’s Secret runway show is just around the corner, but one woman who won’t be watching the much-hyped lingerie display is Aussie model Robyn Lawley.
Lawley, 29, said the very thin models who have become a staple for the lingerie brand are not reflective of the average woman.
Even size 12 Lawley, who at 1.9m tall is often cast as a “plus-size” model, says she doesn’t feel good watching the Victoria’s Secret show.
“I’ve felt like sh*t every year looking at that show,” Lawley told The Daily Telegraph.
“I shouldn’t have to feel that way. Ripley (Lawley’s daughter) is going to have my body shape and my body size — it’s already (genetically) set — and she’s three,” Lawley said.
“The fact that it affected me so much growing up and we are all compared to what is deemed ‘perfection,’ I don’t want her to have to experience that.”
Lawley said the brand should cast a wider range of models with body shapes that reflect its customers.
“Where’s the inclusivity? Where’s the diversity? The perfection is intense,” Lawley said.
“I want actual cellulite on a catwalk. I want girls to be relatable.”
The upcoming 2018 Victoria’s Secret show will be held on November 8 in New York City.
The hashtag #TrainLikeAnAngel has begun trending on social media in the lead-up to the show, as models show off their intense training regimens.
The gruelling preparation many models go through to lose weight and tone up before the show is well documented.
Famous Victoria’s Secret model Adriana Lima once admitted she went on a nine-day liquid-only diet and didn’t consume anything at all, even water, 12 hours prior to walking down the runway.
“We have men likening Victoria’s Secret angels to Olympic athletes as the ideal woman and that just pisses me off,” Lawley said.
“Women want to see diversity. I want to see women like me. Women are beautiful at different sizes, short or tall. We’re the ones who are buying the products so put your money where your mouth is.”
