Seafolly announces first ever trans ambassador
An iconic Aussie swimwear brand recently shared a huge announcement online – but the move has been met with mixed reviews
Iconic Australian swimwear brand Seafolly has announced Deni TodoroviÄ as its first trans ambassador – but the move has been met with mixed reviews online.
Deni, who also identifies as non-binary, took to Instagram to celebrate the news via a lengthy post on Sunday, where they wrote, “Today we made history!
“This marks the first time iconic Aussie swim giants Seafolly have worked with a Trans ambassador/brand partner.
“As the Chief Marketing Officer said in our initial meeting, it’s the first time of many more to come. I couldn’t be honoured.”
However, a similar post on the swimwear brand’s Instagram page was quickly flooded with am array of comments, some taking issue with Deni’s history-making role.
In the photo, the 34-year-old can be seen rocking a pair of lime green Seafolly bikini bottoms and a matching cover-up, taken during recent WorldPride celebrations.
“PROUD to be celebrating Sydney World Pride 2023️,” Seafolly captioned the snap.
Seafolly has been around since the 1970s and has had many iconic ambassadors, including Lara Bingle and Jesinta Franklin.
Deni is an Instagram influencer, podcast host and former fashion editor that has built up their following through their love of fashion and activism.
They boast more than 80,000 Instagram followers.
Deni went onto to explain how Australian brands supporting and uplifting queer people is hugely important.
“This week I’ve been reminded of the many complexities of living as a trans non binary person in Australia, so to have this support from a brand I’ve admired since my days at Cosmo — is a true pinch me moment,” they wrote.
Deni also clarified that the partnership isn’t just tokenism.
“We discussed authentic allyship and have had some very exciting conversations about how the brand can work with community. This is what allyship looks like,” they wrote.
Deni is no stranger to collaborating with iconic Australian brands. They are frequently spotted online endorsing the Camilla.
The announcement comes as Australia is celebrating WorldPride.
