Dave and Candice Warner absent from the blue carpet at Aussie Cricket Awards
Dave and Candice Warner were noticeably absent from a major awards night as they opted for a family holiday overseas.
As Australia’s cricketing stars replaced their sporting gear for suits and gowns for crickets night of nights, the sports golden couple was noticeably absent.
Dave and Candice Warner opted for the sunshine and golden sands of Dubai instead of attending the Australian Cricket Awards at Melbourne’s Crown Palladium on Wednesday evening.
But Warner, who recently retired from Test cricket, was remembered at the awards.
Warner, Shaun Marsh, Aaron Finch and Meg Lanning were all part special farewell broadcast after all four retired from different levels of the game.
The annual event celebrated the on field triumphs of Australia’s best male and female cricketers following an action packed season, with popular all-rounder Mitch Marsh taking home the Allan Border Medal in a landslide victory.
Ash Gardner won the Belinda Clark award for the second time after another terrific season.
However, it was the fashion that captured the attention of a nation, as shades of red and blue were undoubtedly the colours of the night.
Usman Khawaja may have been a stand out player on the cricket field this season but it was Rachel Khawaja who was a stand out on the fashion field, wearing an Effie Kats red, long sleeve gown fit with a red corset.
Captain of the Australian women’s cricket team, Alyssa Healy was sparkling in a deep blue one shouldered gown beside her husband and fellow cricketer Mitchell Starc, who donned a matching bow tie.
Becky Cummins turned heads in a strapless satin corset gown by Oglia Couture with her husband, cricketing legend Pat Cummins, complementing the custom gown perfectly with a double breasted, black suit jacket.
Hattie Zampa made a splash, featuring a strapless and glistening rose gold dress as she joined her husband Adam on the carpet, who pushed the fashion boundaries with a rose gold buttoned jacket, with what appeared to be a black T-shirt underneath.
Sporting superstar, Ellyse Perry, who has represented Australia in both cricket and soccer, wore an eye catching mint green plissé halter dress with slit down her chest and accessorised the look with a golden clutch and white heels.
Last year’s winner of the Allan Border Medal, Steve Smith arrived in what proved to be the men’s fashion choice of the night, a simple back bow tie while his wife Danielle Willis donned a dazzling gold and silver gown.
However, perhaps the best dressed of the night was Aaron and Amy Finch’s daughter who donned a blue Cinderella dress as she walked the blue carpet hand-in-hand with her parents.
Jewels did not form part of the night’s fashion trends, with most women opting for open neck lines and simple earrings as they opted to let their gowns do the talking.
