PARENTS know the drill — stand in line for hours, battle with restless children, try to make them smile for a highly posed photo with Santa.

Cue the tears and tantrums — and that’s mostly from the parents.

Now many Gold Coast families are bucking the trend of traditional Santa photos and booking photographers to capture the moment in ‘silly Santa’ photoshoots to inject some fun into the silly season.

Gone are the stiff and highly orchestrated poses, replaced by ‘beard-pulling’, cheeky grins, and ‘kids being kids’ to capture a unique ‘naughty’ but nice Santa photo.

Upper Coomera photographer, Laura Braidotti from Perfection Photography Queensland got more than 200 messages in less than 24 hours about booking a silly Santa photoshoot, with local families loving the concept.

She came about the idea after realising there had to be a fun alternative to ‘standing in line for hours’ at the local shopping centres to get a photo with Santa.

“There are long lines, children get upset and restless and you end up waiting for hours and are so rushed to get a picture that doesn’t always turn out great,” she said.

“I wanted to give families the chance to have their own time with Santa, to have fun and be silly and make it really memorable instead of a nightmare.”

This is the first year Ms Braidotti has offered the shoots and said they were already a massive hit, having already shot 70 sessions this season.

“We muck around, the kids laugh and smile and actually have a fun time doing it,” she said.

Ms Braidotti charges $45 for a Santa session which includes a framed 5x7 photo, 4 wallet pictures and a photo keychain.
